This information is for the seriours applicants only. The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at South Dakota State University is seeking a PhD student. The PhD research will involve in biomass thermal chemical conversion and catalytic reforming. Students will develop syngas to gasoline and/or bio-oil to gasoline/diesel technique to investigate the effects of synthesis gas (bio-oil) from biomass gasification, Fischer-Tropsch catalyst, and reaction conditions’ change on hydrocarbon quality and yield. The research team members have unique expertise in the fields of biomass pretreatment, fast pyrolysis, gasification, bio-oil fractionation, bio-oil fermentation, and bio-oil hydrodeoxygenation. The research program offers interdisciplinary research opportunities on biomass thermal chemical processing and bio-fuel upgrading. The selected graduate research assistant will be offered a research assistantship with tuition and heath insurance benefit. The candidates should have degree/s in agricultural and biological engineering, chemical engineering, or related area. Previous experience in metal catalyst preparation and tubular reactor processing are desirable but not required. Interested qualified applicants are encouraged to send their resume, copies of transcripts, GRE, and TOEFL (for international candidates only) to Dr. Lin Wei via e-mail: lin.wei@sdstate.edu before formal applications. These positions will OPEN fall 2010 or remain open until the suitable candidates are found. |
