144 It is the artist, not critic, who gives the society something of lasting value. 不同意作者观点 立场:不仅需要artists 还需critics 1 需要 artist。 2 只有artists 不行。 3 需要critics 。 I disagree with the author's assertion. In my opinion, making the art of enduring value demands not only the artists but also critics. Either of the both may refute or contradict the aim. We can not deny that it is the artists that invent or design the art, as a result, the artists are the producers of the art such as drawing, music and so forth. In order to justify the point, there are some excellent examples that are very compelling. We all show great respect and admiration to Monet, the world known artists of impression, for having done a lot of perfect drawings, and one of his works named “Impression: Sunrise” wins the society great reputation. Another example is Beethoven’s brilliant achievement and contribution to music. When his Final of Ninth Symphonies, Chorus, was played, the audience continued their standing applause for five times for the wonderful performance until the police stopped them. At the same time, the famous Denmark writer Anderson had written some works of tale in his lifetime to influence all the children for developing the imagination and creativities. It is undeniable that without artists, without good art. What is discussed in the last paragraph may beg a question: Whether the works can absolutely achieve success and the lasting value to the society as long as the artists invent or compose them? Probably the answer is no. There are about two reasons which account for my views. On the one hand, there is much works beyond what we, as a common people with little technical identification for art, can understand. On the other hand, some artists probably are often circumscribed to their own frigid minds or understanding of their works and cannot break through them so that these artists have not achieved greater success. As a result, the artists alone may not design some wonderful works all the time. How to solve this problem? For my point of view, under some kind of circumstance, in order to attain the aim the society also needs a number of critics due to a couple of reasons. Firstly, when we are hard to understand some works well or better, critics may help us to achieve it, or, in the absence of the critic’s review to the public, maybe there should be a long time to wait for understanding Monet’s works “ Impression: Sunrise”. Secondly, the critic’s proper and exact review of some works may make works remove some defects and perfect the works because the critics sometimes can perceive to some extent what artists maybe cannot perceive at all. Thirdly, by some professional evaluation or constructional advice from critics, artists can break through their fixed and particular minds so as to make works much more valuable to the society, and sometimes even outsiders just like us may give artists some inspiration of invention and composing.
All in all, I deem that the art with enduring value relies on not only artists but also critics because artists is the foundation of good works whereas critics sometimes can make works achieve better value.
