Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People should sometimes do things that they do not enjoy doing. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

It is impossible that we always do things that we are fond of. Sometimes we have to tolerate what we do not like, even hate, without other choice. I agree with such contention.

Firstly, sometimes we have no choice on what we should do. This is the real life--not all the ways are dominated by our will. We have to adjust ourselves to get adapted to the object environment, and keep pace with the times. Churchill, the previous prime minister of Britain, once said ”it is no use doing what you like, you have got to like what you do.” He indicated this famous saying on the background that his country was heavily attacked by Hitler’s troop at the beginning of the World War II, as he was strongly against war. However, on behalf of his nation, he had to declare war against Germany with no other outlet. Finally, he defeated Germany.

Secondly, sometimes what we enjoy doing does not really lead us to success, but is only a fake temptation. To identify temptation, we should use our wisdom. As for myself, I clearly remember that when I was a junior student I crazily like computer games instead of study. My state at the moment was critical but I really enjoyed it very much. If I continued playing computer games as before, I would not accomplish the undergraduate courses definitely. However, I realized the seriousness of my behavior, and corrected it subsequently although I thought study was boring at first. Now, I found that computer games were no more than a beautiful temptation to me then. If I had chosen the so-called enjoyable thing, I would not graduate from university; not to mention continue with further study for master degree.

In one word, some cases do force us to do things that what we do not want to in short run. We have to bear boring or tiring things at some time. However, maybe after it we will acquire what we really want.

A gift (such as a camera, a soccer ball, or an animal) can contribute to a child’s development. What gift would you give to help a child develop? Why? Use reasons and specific examples to support your choice.

I think a soccer ball is the best gift for a child, especially for a boy. Firstly, I think football game is a very good sport. As for a child, growing up is very important. So the football game can help him or her to do exercise and develop muscles. Secondly, I think it can develop a child’s interest, since the football game is a very interesting game. It benefits children’s characteristics. So I will give a soccer ball to a child.
