I agree with the speaker's broad assertion that creating an appealing image is important in the contemporary society. However, the speaker preposterously extends the importance of image to the highness that it is more important than the reality or truth behind that image. My point of contention with the speaker’s standpoint is discussed below..
As people always tend to make their judgment at the first sight and may stick to that viewpoint in the long term, the image unconditionally becomes a vital factor, especially in the business. Consider, for example that you are faced to the masses of products while knowing little information them, what criterion do you base on if you have to choose one. Obviously, it is the image and some one even equates the image with the quality. Without the image, even the best products can not be sold out.
This phenomenon is also distinct during the job-hunting period. As people only have a few minutes to show up themselves, the interviewer almost judge the interview by the first impression, rather than the substantial ability.
When it comes to the reason of these phenomena, it is partly ascribed to the rapid development of our society in which people are faced to an increasing number of information while having little to deal with them. As a result, people only can make their decisions in a short time. Accordingly in the job-hunting aspect, more and more interviewers spend lots of time on the packing of themselves instead of the professional ability and the idea that image is much more important than the truth began to prevail in the modern world.
However, that is not the truth. The significance of image would wanes considerably and yield to the substance and fact eventually. The image can help earn the market in the short term, people would not trust the products anymore if it is of low quality. In this sense, any product that want to live in the long run market have to enhance its substantial quality. In a company, maybe people can be recruited because of his appearance, he will still be expelled when he has no true ability.
In the final analysis, an attractive image can attribute to the first step to success in a large scale, however, the genuine capability is the most important part. It is just like no matter how beautiful the wrapper of a candy is, we will tear the wrapper and taste the inner one ultimately. So people who have genuine capacity have to enhance their appearance to pave their way first, and they have to remember the image is destined to give way to the true ability in the long run.
