The University of Claria is generally considered one of the best universities in the world because of its instructors' reputation, which is based primarily on the extensive research and publishing record of certain faculty members. In addition, several faculty members are internationally renowned as leaders in their fields. For example, many of the faculty from the English department are regularly invited to teach at universities in other countries. Furthermore, two recent graduates of the physics department have gone on to become candidates for the Nobel Prize in Physics. And 75 percent of the students are able to find employment after graduating. Therefore, because of the reputation of its faculty, the University of Claria should be the obvious choice for anyone seeking a quality education.
In this argument, the arguer recommends that anyone seeking a quality education should consider the University of Claria as an obvious choice. To substantiaste this conclusion, the arguer points out the evidence that many of the faculty from the English department are regularly invited to teach at university sities in other countries.Furthmore,he indicates that two recent graduates of the physics department have gone on to bacome candidates for the Nobel Prize in Physics.Additionally,he cites the result of a statistics that 75 percent of the students can find a job after graduating. The argument seems to be somewhat convicing, but further reflection reveals that it omits some substantial concerns that should be addressed in this augument. In my opinion, this argument suffers from 3 logical flaws.
To begin with,we are not informed that how many departments seted in the University of Claria.Unless it can be shown that the English and physics departments are representative of all departments in the university, the conclusion that anyone seeking a quality education should consider the University of Claria as an obvious choice is completely unwarranted. In fact,in face of such limited introduction,it is fallacious to draw any conclusion at all.
Secondly, the evidence that many of the faculty from the English department are regularly invited to teach at university in other countries is insufficient to support that the English department is great. The arguer does not mention what subjects the faculty from the English department teach in the other university.Maybe some of them teach computer science just because no one can teach such subjects in English in those university.Even assuming that the faculty from the English department are very good at teaching English, the situation that they always teach in other countries soon raise a now problem. We are not informed how frequently they are invited. If there are too many invitations that they can not teach in the University of Claria often,it is far enough to say that the English department is a nice choice.
Thirdly, the result of the statistics is too valgue to be reliable.Without knowing the average salary which the 75 percent students earn,we cannot accept that the University of Claria are worth the school fees.Furthermore, the result does not tell us how many students find employment in the fields they major in.
In summary, the arguer fails to strengthen his conclusion because the evidence cited in the argument does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. To make this argument more convicing, the arguer woulu have to privide more information with regard to all departments seted in the University of Claria.Additionally,he would have to demonstrate how often the faculty from the English department teach in the University of Claria and how well they teach. Therefore,if the statistics had included the given factors mentioned above, the argument would have be more logically acceptable. |
