99"In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."
There has been a controversy over the importance of practice and ideal for a long time. Some people consider that ideal is the uppermost direction in their life while others believe that ideal without putting into practice is merely malarkey. In my part, I take both practice and ideal seriously.
Goethe, the famous German Poet and dramatist, has ever said that the important thing in life is to have a great aim, and the determination to attain it. Hence, the determination of attaining one's aim is as important as to set up an aim. When you step into the society and get a position in a big company, maybe you will soon have an aim of being the top leader in your department, yet you will never achieve it if you don't work harder and are just satisfied with accomplishing your own duties. A businessman, who wants the supermarts of his company to be set up all over the world, will not succeed as well if he doesn't work out a proposal of deploitation. On the whole, practice is vital for the success of our life.
However, idealistic point of view is also crucial in any realm of life. Leo Tolstoy, a notable Russian writer, who once said that ideal is the beacon without which there is no direction and no life, supports this a lot. Without a higher ideal, students are only content with fulfilling the homework assigned by their teachers and cast about the swift and convenient approach of maximizing their grade average or passing the final exams, rather than coming up with the plan of further study which benefits them more. When it comes to the realm of politics, likewise, ideal is a momentous factor to a leader who wants to turn his political ideology into reality. Without the idealistic blueprint there won't be any revolution, reformation, and any path to a successful future.
Furthermore, ideality can not be equated with illusion, which will not come true to some extent. We should make the plan exercisable, otherwise it is too impracticable to achieve, which may leads to our disanimation and make us undesirous to pursue it, and finally make the ideal meaningless.
As what have been discussed above, to strike a balance between practice and ideal is important for us to succeed in any realm of life. What's more, it can benefit our society a lot. |
