Tradition VS Modernization

I strongly disagree with the speaker's notion that one must choose between tradition and modernization on the basis of their incompatible. In many cases, however, tradition can be revitalize and reproduced by modern means, thus tradition integrates with modernization to improve our living conditions.

Admittedly, our lives have been greatly different from our ancestors. Currently, we live our lives in a way far beyond the imagination even of our latest forefathers. They would be afraid strolling in streets, with various shapes cars hurtling past; revere the skyscrapers as message from the god; jump at the glance of woman wearing sexy concernedly, confused at the visit to an average house with diverse domestic appliance that tremendously facilitate our life today; so on and so forth. Their amazement towards our common life would just like we can hardly imagine their boring and severe lifestyle. The stern and unjust law system is replaced by laws that respect and protect the equality and freedom of human as the same. Rapid developing technology, particularly internet and prosperous transporting system, knit the world into a web, making it convenience for anyone to contact with and drop in any other in a flash, which typically take days or months, if not years, to get the message across.

The material shapes may change somehow, while modernization, in many ways, is marked the influence of tradition. Traditional essence is still alive today, in a different appearance. We still read books to acquire the essential knowledge to learn and adapt to modern world, whether books in paper or in electronic. Music and opera is still on show, in mp3 player or in theaters, and we still cherish the classic legacy of predecessors, the symphony of Beethoven, Mozart, the spectacular opera from Shakespeare and so forth. In our daily life, in addition, dazzling doors, such as revolving door, sensor door, retractable door and roll gates, appear hither and thither. As to chair, though still called chairs, more comfortable and humanized designed stand there to relax people after hard work, and meet different profession or individual needs. It's no difficult to notice the influence of the tradition into modern world.

On spirit level, traditional values, experiencing years of baptism, still prevail and show their value in modern world. Patriotism still inspires us and our compatriots to devote to the development, security and integrity of our motherland. Honesty is still a measure of one's personality and the cardinal trait of our expected partnership or friends. Our society moves forward, regardless of continual selfish inhibiting, with the philanthropy existing in everyone's heart, no matter its amount. Experience, piling with years mistakes and success, is still passed on from one generation to the next generation. Till now, we still highly evaluate Master Sun’s Art of War in the period of warring states, and now extend its application not only in military but business, diplomatic and the skills of dealing with people in daily life.

Tradition, by its definition, the material, behavior way and the values in the past, still have its influence in modern. What we should do is not prefer one to the other, but combine them, modernize the essence of tradition in a way that appeal to the masses and make breakthroughs to better adapt them to facilitate and lift our life standards.

Tradition and modernization are not an either-or proposition, incompatible and cannot harmoniously exist. On the contrary, a well-balance dose of both helps to promote our prosperous. Accordingly, what we should do is not prefer one to the other, but combine them, modernize the essence of tradition in a way that appeal to the masses and make breakthroughs to better adapt them to facilitate and lift our life standards.
