The reading passage holds the point that four days work will benefit the whole economy, the individual company and the employees who choose to work four days a week. However, The lecture rebuts this point of view by serious arguments.
Contrary to the belief in the passage that four days work could benefit individual company, the professor says that companies have to spend more . Because more workers will need more equipments such as computers. what's more, companies have to provide health benefit and training for all workers.
Furthermore, the lecture contradicts the point that four days work can increase the employment rate. In fact, companies have other choices rather than hiring more workers. For instance, companies may require four days workers to work overtime or do the same amount of work as five days workers. Thus, more four days workers does not mean more jobs for other people, at the same time work becomes more impleasant than before.
Finally, the professor challenges the assumption of the advantage for employees who choose to work four days. On one hand ,companies may require four days workers to do the same amount of work as five days workers. On the other hand, Companies are more likely to promote the five days workers rather than four day workers. Four day workers will lose some advancement in their carrers. What is much worse is that in economic recession four days workers will be fired first.
In retrospect, all the main points in the reading passage have been totally disapproved in the lecture and are far from persuasive.
