The speaker claims that studying history helps us to dispel the illusion that people living now are significantly different from people who lived in earlier times. I strongly concede that as history is a consistent process, people living now and living earlier have similarities, but in my opinion, there are also many differences between the earlier times and today.

The history is a consistent process so that it is hard to divide it minutely into totally different periods. The category of history is directed by different ideologies or dynasties, but there are always many similarities remain between two historical times. As a result, we can usually find archetype in the history of today's world. For example, people in today's world are still facing a great depression of economy and finance, but Adam Smith had already gave some advices and explanation about the depression in his Country Wealth. This solutions or methods have been used in the history can be properly applied in today to solve similar problems. What's more, people can be more accurate about the prediction of future by examing the similar trends in history.

However, the so many similarities do not mean that there is no difference between different times. As the history is developing rather than being static, we can recognize the gradually change of different times. As for the history scholars, the study of these change can make people better grasp the factors that cause the change and to understand the complexity of social revolution. As the most important, people will study a history event considering more about its background rather than draw conclusions under the backgrounds of our own society. Last but not the least, though we get many lessons from the history, the exceptions also let us go ahead and not be constrained only by what happened before. As the history is always developing, people should believe that they can create a new and different time rather than simulate the earlier times.

In my view, the study of history not only tells us about the similarities and differences between today and earlier times, but also lets us to get experiences or lessons from these things happened before. When ruling out the process of history, people will feel how the eminent heroes and the anonymous mass shape our history and our times. The study of history give us an
objective way to tell what is beneficial to an individual or a country's development and what may be harmful. It tells us what have happened before but it still exists in today’s world. We can also get knowledge from the history about if a policy will be a milestone of today and future as it may provoke a revolution in the society.

To sum up, history is a vivid and objective portrait about the earlier times. Studying history is not only a widely search for lots of facts and individuals, but also what people can learn from thes facts and individuals. We should realize that they are different from us but we are also similar. Only if we have fully and further studied and understood the history, can we better handle today and create the future.
