Issue 141
It is more harmful to compromise one's own beliefs than to adhere to them.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

There are almost 200 countries in the world and probably half of them own their special beliefs in their area. Everyone keeps their own belief in their heart, while in some special situations they have to give up their belief to survive or to gain other benefits. It is hard to say that adhering to beliefs is better than giving up them since there are different kinds of circumstances. Actually, treating beliefs with more rational consideration will make things easier.

Belief just like a candle, what will help people to find the way out in the dark. This is the role how belief plays in people's daily lives. In order to find a faith to guide their life road, people start to follow some rules they believe in. As we all know, beliefs have ability and power to lead people to follow them and regulate their lifestyle by establishing some rules needed to be obey. There is no doubt that focus on the beliefs will make people's thought more pure and only do the things that the rules beliefs lead them to do. Imagine that, if one believes that the swine is their protector in the ancient time, she/he probably will never eat the pork or use the things made by swine's fur. The reason is clear that the one think the swine is to inviolable and sacred to eat or banter. Stick to one belief will also standardize one's activities in order to avoid some crime or some repulsive things happen. Anyone who offense or break the rules or regulations will get the punishment from themselves or the religion groups. A Christian always try be nice and friendly to others because they think help others is a kind of virtue according to their believes. Jesus is their father, they follow the instruct from the God in their heart and try to never violate the beliefs, the Holly Bible is the guide book of their beliefs and the Christian read them every time when they feel confused and sad, they can find the power from the god and become confident to the difficulties and feel better when they get hurt.
Although ones focus on the their beliefs will benefit a lot from them, once the belief become into a forceful and extreme task will cause a lot of problems either. The extremist is a potential problem of the society sometimes. For example, Taliban organization is claims to build the purest Islamic country in the world, while after years it became into the terrorist organization even to hit the world trade center in New York, which causes a lot of damage to America. Sometimes, the beliefs will cause some negative effect when the beliefs excessively being overweight by the people with a not rational judge. Some people doing dirty or repulsive things in the name of the faith of religion. Not only Taliban, some examples happened in our daily lives will prove that the extreme feelings will hurt not only themselves but also their families. Some die-hard fans for popular singers or movie stars sometimes even try to do the plastic surgery in order to looks like their favorite star. Without any doubt, this kind of action is no rational at all, which addict to the adoration for the star in their heart.
To sum up, both actions of sticking to the belief or abandoning it are not correct enough. Only regard the belief as a way to improve and treat it rationally is the best choice.
