题目
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes the person—often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed—and can leave the person too tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise more.

In this argument, the arguer reaches the conclusion that people who snore are more likely to put on weight than are people who do not snore and thus recommend that anyone who snores should try to eat less than the average. This conclusion is based on a study which cites that sleep apnea accompanied with snore can make person too tired during the day to exercise. When giving a further and careful reevaluation, however, this argument defies simple logic and suffers from several critical fallacies.
First of all, the arguer fails to mention any specific statistics about the portion of people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds among all the people who snore, instead he/she mentions a word "many", which, nevertheless is a vague data, supporting nothing in this argument. Possibly, only a few persons who snores has this kind of serious symptom, 可以假设一些数字吧 therefore, even if it is sleep apnea that cause them too tired during the day to exercise, one can not draw the conclusion that all thepeople who snore are more likely to gain weight without any other consideration.
Moreover, there is actually no causal relationship between the sleep apnea and the so-called "too tired during the day to exercise". Put it precisely, the arguer provides no evidence to support his/her claim about that. Whether on earth breathing stop during the night for only a few second can make people being tired? It is likely that it does not do any harmful effect on people's health, let alone making them feel tired. Or perhaps, alternative explanation can render the feeling of tired, such as illness, mental stress or even medication during this time period. Furthermore, even assuming they have less exercise during the day, whether these people who snore and also have sleep apnea will necessarily put on weight is still open to doubt. Accordingly, quoting that it is sleep apnea that cause the decreasing time 不是decreasing time是too tiredof exercises is unwarranted to buttress any conclusion.
Last but not least, the arguer fails to weigh the disadvantage and harmful effect of his/her recommendation. Does anyone who snores necessarily gain weight? If not, how can the arguer suggests eating less which may probably cause innutrition and thus hurtful for people’s health? In addition, one can not exercise more if he/she has a heart disease or high blood pressure or any other serious disease that cannot afford exercise, even though he/she is fat indeed. Without any demographic survey, one might not easily draw any recommendation easily.
In sum, this argument is not well reasoned and thus lacks credibility. Further investigation and study about whether sleep apnea caused by snore can ultimately render people's gaining weight should be conducted before the arguer introduces any conclusion and recommendation.
