TOPIC: ISSUE5 - "A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer."
The speaker prefers to require all students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college. In general, I agree with the view point insofar as uniform fundamental curriculum is favorable for the development of society and a person himself. But meanwhile schools should also have some freedom to offer their students special courses considering the distinct situation in different parts of the nation.
Firstly, uniform fundamental curriculum plays a very important role on one's ethics. we can see that most school take the same curriculum about moral education in which students gradually shape the correct ethics ,such as the self-discipline ,honesty, the love of the country and the people around him ,and the belief in freedom and equity. For example, each company needs the basic principle of credit to maintain the cooperation, and then to keep the constant development of their own company. What is more, based on these right ethics not only could a person adapt to the world well, but also our society can constantly develop in harmonious and peaceful circumstance.
Secondly, the same national curriculum can guarantee a relative uniform level of education. If each school has the full freedom to determine their own academic courses, the whole development of national education will be unbalanced. For instance ,in a arts school if students are only provided with professional courses without adequate attention on basic education about reading and writing ,maybe after the graduation they would merely know how to dance, sing or painting Moreover because the students are still too young to realize which courses are needed to sufficiently help them to live in the world ,they are entirely possible to obey the courses provided by the school that may probably lead to the lack of necessary ability to live .Therefore the same national curriculum is an assurance to form the ability for the students to contract with the society.
However, the important role of domestic courses should not be overlooked. Here is an example to support my claim. A school settled near the Wall Street is probably liable to provide more courses about economy and statistic, since they consider lots of their students may enter the stock exchange or other trade companies, while a school in Florid might incline to provide more courses about tour .So school should have some freedom to determine several courses according to the condition of different areas, which can be very helpful to develop the local economy.
In sum, the same national curriculum are dispensable for the society and person, yet the domestic courses also play an important part .Thus both of them are necessary to keep the progress of the whole nation.
