25,
anyone can make things bigger and more complex. What requires real effort and courage is to move in the opposite direction-in other words, to make things as simple as possible.
I totally agree that one can make things bigger and complex, but make things as simple as possible requires real effort and courage. In general, it’s the human nature that anyone can make bigger and more complex. To them, to make things as simple as possible is very important and difficult, which requires real effort and courage. Of course, not every one could achieve such a goal.
Making things bigger and more complex are often the first thing one would like to do in the world. For example, as a person facing more and more commodities, he can’t hold back his raw appetite for such a commercializing world. He wants to get everything he could. All kinds of things are inciting him. And he has no real choice for what he don’t want and what he do want.
Fortunately, as time goes on, one might have some change little by little. By learning more about the changing world, he might have a taste to make a best choice for himself. Of course, for a matured person, he will find that the best choice to him is to simplify complex things. When he could make things as simple as possible, his heart is full and clean without all kinds of lust for the outside world. And then he could do what he really wants to do.
To be simple is meaningful, but not easy. It requires real effort and courage to move in the opposite direction and it can’t be done once for all. For example, when one begins to learn literal writing, he is naturally willing to express things in savvy and acumen ways. As to him, only with such an exaggerated and boastful way of writing could make himself feel confident. But such expressions in writing are similar to a crow with full of feathers of a peacock. A crow could not be a peacock in nature even if she borrows the feathers from a peacock. The truth of writing lies in simplicity. Heminway, a great writer of the American, who won the Noble Prize for The Old Man and the Sea, in order to write as simple as possible, he often write his long novels standing by the table. He said half in humor and half in truth that if he sits down, it will be very easy to write more complex. The corner of an iceberg in words leads to the infinite imagination of whole iceberg of his writing. For him, the be simple needs tough and strict self-control. Simplicity, in other words, means power and strength, the more simple he makes, the more power and strength behind the writing emerges. As simple as possible, he makes the meanings of his writing as abundant as possible. It’s somewhat like a paradox, but it’s the truth to writing.
Unfortunately, not everyone come inborn have such a strong will to keep himself from being more complex in way of life, or in way of writing, because humans naturally tend to make things bigger and more complex. And even he tries to be as simple as possible, there are have some kinds of difficulty that he must conquer? Just ask him: could he stand to write as Heminway? There are always something preventing him from being much simpler.
In the final analysis, make things simple are worthy of seeking for, rather than to make things complex. So, try to be simple, or just keeping them that way- takes full effort born of reflection and self-control rather than so-called exertion, and a courage character and conviction rather than unbridled passion.
