Issue11 "All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."

In the most recent few decades, the course of globalization and the technological enhancements has not only brought about a more convenient modern world, but also cause some global social problems. And these problems recently have become more complex which are consisted by several elements separated in different countries. Therefore, a global university designed to solve the world's most persistent social problems is in great need and of enormous meaning to the development of the human society.

Universities are born to provide nation elite in every field of it. From ancient Greek forums to nowadays world-top universities, these campuses have never lacked of young students who are eager for knowledge and ideals, as well as experienced and erudite teachers. In both teaching and researching aspects, modern universities are playing an important role propelling the world's development. Consider these facts: the first computer which had then changed the world was made in University of Pennsylvania; a myriad scientists who won Nobel Prize came from Princeton University; many of current leaders of China graduated from the nation's most famous university, Tsinghua University; the architecture department of Delft University, which locates in Amsterdam, has provided not only the Netherlands but also the whole world a number of van ward and creative architecture masters. It is these universities' feat that has solved many social problems, changed the world dramatically and supported it by their graduates or undergraduates.

Realizing the important function of the universities, establishing a global university is the most efficient way to solve the world most persistent social problems.

To begin with, the progress of human civilization development has experienced the enlargement of the bound of the problems from the community base to country base and now to the world base. Nowadays, our society has faced several worldwide problems such as hunger, war, terrorism, multi-media globalization, environmental problems and so forth, many of which are interacted between by several elements separated in different countries. Therefore, the worldwide association and cooperation aim to deal with these problems is in most urgent need. For instance facing the global warming which becomes the fundamental problems that will affect the future of human society, many dominant countries has come together to take some measures to save our common homeland. In 1997, the Kyoto Protocol serves as a significant sign of global cooperation attempt to solve the problem with the pledge to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. This trend of global collaboration will become the dominant way to deal with these problems.

Further more, the global university which gains student which has different motherland, different racial, different education system can therefore have diversify views, method and opinions when deal with the global problems. These students when deeply impact by their education system and culture represent the social standard and way of thinking of their nation. Through this communication of different minds students can get the knowledge of the real situation and experience of other culture background and discuss the feasibility and effectiveness of different solution in different countries. By combining the elite of these opinions, students will finally reach a more rational and general or even some creative solution to the global problem.

To sum up, in attempt to solve the global most persistent problems, the global university, considering many profits above, can be quite effective. Although the different background like language, culture and social standard we have, the whole world will try their best to promote the development of the global university because we have the same and unique homeland which calls for the effort of every people in the world.
