The arguer assert that people gain satisfaction with the nonmainstream areas such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits which are not addressed by mainstream science. I concede insofar with the speaker’s assertion, but we have to admit that the mainstream science paly a crucial role during the development of modern civilization.

In the first place, Such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits certainly have a great effect on a larger number of people. Some of them may be ill educated and underclass of the society, others may be comfort themselves when they worry about their destiny or get into trouble. Besides, non-mainstream area of inquiry also plays an important role to satisfy peoples’ curiosity about the unknown world. I will offer several examples that serve well to illustrate this point.

The first example is that fisherfolk when they prepare to fishing they must pray with buddha that they wish to gain more fish and come back safely rather than meet tremendous storm. It is entirely possible that one individual plan to purchase a house and when he or she has no ideas to decide whether purchase or not, he or she would go to the fortune-teller and ask his advices that purchasing this house is good or bad for him or her. After that he or she can make a decision to purchase this house or not. This condition may be caused by people who have less education or underclass of the society when they meet something they have few knowledges to know what should they do.

This is the second example, when some one get illness such as AIDS or cancer that science medical treatment can not save. The patients who know they cann’t be recovered throught science medical treatment. They may convert their attention to the nonmainstream and can gain some mental console. Another example is that long long ago people who live in that era, they don't know how the thunder, rain and lightning take place, subsequently they explain this phenomenon attribute to the nonmainstream. This situation may be caused by people who need comfort themselves or ignorance about the natural phenomena.

But during the rapid social and scientific developing and progressing, more attention are paid on science and modern civilization, subsequently mainstream science get more and more vital. Pepole in modern society get high level of education and enough knowledge, when they meet a lot of troubles they will think how to solve it through the effort of themselves rather than asking the advices of the furtune-teller. Nowadays during the development of the science medical threarment, a majority of illness can be saved such as Diabetes. And the phenomena of the thunder, rain, lightening can explained by scientist. Hence, people tranfer attention from nonmainstream to mainstream.

In sum, I concede that when people encounter vast troubles which they cann’t solve by themseves, they will turn to nonmainstream and gain comfort from it. However, we should try our best to develop the science, and seeking help with science as possible as we can.
