TOPIC: ARGUMENT200 - Statistics collected from dentists indicate that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. This evidence suggests that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Thus, dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients.

In the argument, the arguer recommends that dentists should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous of suffering patients. To support this claim, the arguer cites the result of statistics collected from dentists that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. Additionally, the arguer reasons that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Although it is likely warranted at first sight, a careful examination may reveal how groundless the conclusion is.

First of all, based on a gratuitous assumption that there are more men visiting the dentist, the arguer concludes a groundless conclusion that dentists should target the male consumer to attract patients. The result of the statistics only mentions that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. The arguer provides no evidence to demonstrate that the amount of men, who visits the dentist, is larger than that of women. Consequently, the recommendation that dentists should target the male consumer is unconvincing.

Second, the assumption that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are is open to doubt. The arguer does not provide adequate evidence concerning the person's condition, the degree of the disease and the forth. It is possible that men visit the dentist all have a serious dental disease, so that the pain they suffered is very huge; as a result, they are easier to faint. It is equally possible that the men who visit the dentist is in poor condition; with a soft pain, they may faint. Additionally, the experience of dentist can not lend strong support to this assumption. It is likely that the dentist consider men should not faint; as a result, the dentist may have deep expression, if the male faint during treatment; and women would be regarded too easy fainted to remember. Thus, the assumption is unwarranted.

Last but not least, the conclusion that dentists should emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous of suffering patients. The arguer provide no evidence that the consumer decide which dentist to visit only by considering their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous of suffering patients. Although the anesthetic techniques may be an important factor, there are other factors influence the consumer, such as the charge, the service attitude and the material used. The arguer does not take a survey (or having taken; but doesn't mention in the argument) about that, so I can be convinced.

In sum, the argument is fraught with flaws and fallacies. To strengthen this conclusion, the arguer would have to demonstrate that there are more men visiting the dentist than women. Moreover, the arguer would have to investigate what influence consumer most, when they would like to visit the dentist.
