Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern building? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

With the acceleration of industrial growth in modern society, more and more people crowed into city to find jobs or make a living. So the lands for building offered people place to live are not enough in large cities. In addition, with new planning of city, many old, historic buildings have to been pulled down or destroyed for lands used in building skyscrapers to meet current need. From personal perspective, I consider that despite current need should been met, it is not right for city to remove or destroy its old, valuable, historical buildings for modern building.

To begin with, it is must be acknowledged that nowadays, many high, modern building are constructed to provide people more rooms or space and which can solve many social problems people face, like the high price of house, little rooms to live in. owing to these problems, some old, historical buildings are destroyed for the land to modern building. In addition, modern building can offer more convenient equipments for people in low price, enhancing people living standard at the same time. For example, in the building I live in, there are a supermarket, exercise center, as well as a large parking place underground. Thus it is necessary for city to build modern buildings for the advantages they can bring with.

However, it is somewhat wrong for people to get modern buildings to discard their valuable, historic buildings down from forebears, or ancestors. Old buildings have their own advantages which not only appear the worth for visit, but also indicate the skills of architectures. For example, in northern city, Harbin, there is one great church, which is one of three that in the world. So every year, people from around of China to visit this architecture to enjoy themselves. Moreover, because it is elegant and outstanding skills of building this church, people who engaged in architect come to get some ideas from this building. Now, this building has been protected from government and folk people.

Furthermore, historic building can present a kind of culture, such as the style of living, custom and habit of people. There are many “Si He Yuan” in Beijing that offer people a sense and picture of society in old China. Thought in current, many merchants for housing ask government to abandon the old buildings, people have done their best to preserve them. In “Si He Yuan” one family live together with one playground, so they can add their passion with each other. Modern society, in order to get better development or jobs or high salary, many young people leave their home, living alone, which transparently contrast to the style of living in the past. So from the old building, people can get enjoyment in culture, knowledge about their past. Thus, to protect old buildings from being destroyed and preserve them for ever is beneficial for human.

In sum, in spite to the need of new lands for modern building, I still think that it is right for government for preserve historic building after taking the advantages of old building into account.

1.How do you use your spare time?
2.Should cellphones be prohibited in certain plances？

1 most of time, I spent my spare time in playground. I like play basketball, which can offer me good health. As you know, basketball is very popular in American and I like watch NBA competition. Of course, sometimes, I go to library to read some books for enjoyment. Reading book not only provide me knowledge to understand outside world, but also bring my happiness. I read scientific novel and I can get more information about unknown phenomena to me, which bring me knowledge. In addition, I read novel for which can relax my spirit and enjoy myself.

2 yes, I consider that cellphones should be banned in certain places. There are several reasons to support my opinion. First, in certain place, such as theater, museum, library, when cellphones ring, which bring noise to other people. I think it is not right for people have their cellphones open in these places. Second, cellphones can bother other people. Especially, in meeting, some people have talking about one topic, then the ring from cellphone can disrupt the speaker’s minds.
Thirdly, in classroom, students are all study in silence, one ring can annoy them. Thus I think that it is right to prohibit cellphones in some certain places.
