I could only agree insofar that art creations are very important to evaluate a civilization's value(when we are evaluating the value of a civilization), but we should also pay considerable attention to the scientific accomplishments, which is(are) parallel to art creations deserving the commensurable emphasize(emphasis).
The world can be divided into the(不要加) two parts equally, which are (不要加)the subjective part and the objective part. This rule can be applied similarly to the individuals,(and) societies. So do(as well as) civilizations. The value of a civilization can only be judged according to the both parts of it Overstating one side of it can not be regarded appropriate.(properly by scrutinizing both of the two parts and, overemphasizing either one will lead to an inaccurate result.)
The great art creations always arouse the deep, subtle emotion in one’s heart and cause a fierce resonation with your soul. Van Gogh--a well known Dutch artist –painted ‘sunflower’, striking one’s heart wish and hope embodied in the yellow flowers.(什么意思?) How could art gain such a heartshaking power? Art, according to Freud's judgment on the art(definItion), in essence, is a kind of release of individual lust. I can not agree more. Art is a medium through what(which) the artists express their emotions, passions and desires. (and this)That is where the amazing power comes from. So art sublimes(及物动词吧) to the eternal expressing form, consistent with the human instinct developed in the immemorial time, of subjective sentiment(这句话没看懂,逻辑很混乱). So, the art creations, as the subjective part of the civilization, could be used as a touch-stone to appraise (when apprasing) the value of civilization.(整体感觉说理不够有力,只是说了艺术表现个人,但是和文明的联系不紧密.)
But, merely relying on the art creation is not enough for us to make a judgment. Since the nature of humanity from the ancient age has changed a lot, which can be justified by the perpetual badgering of prejudices, discriminations, wars and massacre,(这里根本没说出人类本质是怎么变化的) (while)the subject of the art creations do not differ largely. The value of a prehistory could actually(漏了动词) the same with the modern art. Can we just simply conclude that the civilization is nearly the same? No, of course, so we have to introduce some new norm(norms) to appraise together.(do the assessment)
Then(so) we turn to the scientific accomplishment. Science, as we all known(know), bases it(its) gorgeous(?这个词用来形容结构?) structure on the philosophical foundation, epistemology, the theory we used (use )to explore and understand the world through reasoning and critical thinking. It is the symbol of rationality, just the contrary side of the emotion, which reflects the objective side of the civilization. It really poses its tremendous impact on the variety societies in different time(times). The scientific accomplishments have greatly changed society, not only in(两个in都不要) the quality of life, but in the ethos of the society as well. For example, the Internet technology not only makes it convenience(convenient) to access to hung(huge) amount(amounts) of data and information, but also cause(causes) the moral problems and the changing of people’s value(价值观好像不是这么说的). So the( its) profound influence(influencs) on the societies makes(make) it justifiable for us to underscore the importance of scientific accomplishments to the extent as a(that they serve as the) criterion to evaluate a society.(这段完全没有突出科学成就做为客观性评价标准的理由.)
Similarly, the scientific accomplishments are not enough to judge a society alone. Anyway, the scientific accomplishments are just knowledge and technologies avoid of humanity(太绝对了吧). A scientific accomplishment can be a beneficial thing as well as a dissolving power commanded by a depraved intellectua(是想表达科学成就是双刃剑的意思吗?)l. A society flourishes(flourishing) in the scientific field while lacking humanism can not be distinct feature to make it unique. It is the neutral(natural?) characteristic of the scientific accomplishment that foredooms the limitation of this standard.
In sum, both artistic creations and scientific accomplishments crave the contour of a civilization .Thus, the true value of a society can only be understood on both sides of it(its) artistic creations and scientific accomplishments. |
