ationTOPIC: ARGUMENT239 - The following appeared as an editorial in the local newspaper of Dalton.

"When the neighboring town of Williamsville adopted a curfew four months ago that made it illegal for persons under the age of 18 to loiter or idle in public places after 10 p.m., youth crime in Williamsville dropped by 27 percent during curfew hours. In Williamsville's town square, the area where its citizens were once most outraged at the high crime rate, not a single crime has been reported since the curfew was introduced. Therefore, to help reduce its own rising crime rate, the town of Dalton should adopt the same kind of curfew. A curfew that keeps young people at home late at night will surely control juvenile delinquency and protect minors from becoming victims of crime."
In this argument, the author concludes that in order to limit the mount of crime, Dalton could view the neighboring town of Williamsville as the model to implement the regulation to prevent people under the age of 18 to idle after 10. To support the conclusion, the author provides the statistic of survey showing that after applying to the regulation, the crime rate in Williamsville dramatically decreased by 27percent.At first glance .the argument is somewhat reasonable, however, a careful examination reveals that none of evidence could hold up the argument .
To begin with , one of problems is that the mere fact that the implementation of the same regulation that prohibit the children stay outside home after 10 am precedes the obvious low crime rate are not sufficient to consider that the former is the cause of the latter. In all likelihood, many other possibilities could also bring with the same positive effect. Perhaps during that time , parents begin to strengthen the education about crimeor perhaps , the children are better supervised than it once was . Lacking a detailed analysis of the reasons, the author cannot hastily conclude that the restriction the span loitering outside is the main reason to directly affect the result.
Next, the author fails to assume that no crime reported to department in Williamsviile where there is highly frequent crime equally means that in other places the regulation could bring the same result. It is entirely possible that because of Williamsville are strictly regulated, or better supervised by police, the criminals have to alter their venue avoid being sent to prison. It is also possible that the crime with it’s ever -increasing power, resident are scared to report, without ruling out these possibilities, it is
Finally, the author fails to take into account the dissimilarities between Dalton and Williamsville, which may render limiting the crime rate towards spreading the same kind of curfew. Moreover, because the curfew which established ten years ago , the span was a long time which can cause many possible changes during this time .Along these changing , the crime rate may dropped by lots of reasons .
In sum, the argument is unpersuasive .Before the conclusion about execution of curfew which is likely to bring the same achievement, however, the more detailed and complete evidence concerning are needed. After all, the false confidence in ambiguous argument cannot stand up to the rigorous evaluation
