In this article, the author states that Clearview should be a top choice for retirement. To bolster his assertion, the author points out several evidences containing logical flaws, which rendersit unconvincing.

A threshold problem with the argument involves the unfounded statement that having spectacular natural beauty and consistent climate indicates top choice for retirement. The author provides no evidence that the natural beauty is better than any other towns for retirement. It is entirely possible that though the natural view in Clearview is good, the natural view of some nearby town is even better. In addition, consistent climate does not have to be suitable for retired people. The climate might be, in contradiction, consist in a extremely cold temperature. Lacking better explanations of the natural environment, the author failed to convince me Clearview is the top choice for retirement from the environmental aspect.

The argument also assumes unfairly that falling on housing cost and lower estate taxes rate will be attracting features for retiring people. The author ignores a host of other possibilities. For instance, even though the housing cost in Clearview has fallen significantly, the price for housing is still higher than the average or housing costs in the areas around Clearview are falling even further. Moreover, there is no evidence showing that other than estate tax, though making it lower than other areas, whether the government charges other taxes on housing or not. Without ruling out all these exceptions, the argument can not convince me that moving to Clearview is cheaper than others.

The author also points out that, according to the mayor's promises, there are some new programs will be implemented to improve basic facilities and public service. The new programs sound attractive; however, there is no evidence which ensures there improvements will happen. It is not surprising to hear that some programs get canceled due to the funding problems. In addition, thinking from the other side, the mayor's promises reveal that there still more or less have problems related to what they want to improve in Clearview, which could possibly make it not be the "TOP" choice.

In conclusion, the author's argument is unpersuasive as it stands. To strengthen it, we need the evidence showing the natural environment is good enough for living. To better assess the argument, more data on housing cost would be needed. I would also need the actual blueprint of the town's future but not just promises.
