Despite their extensive efforts to determine the mode of oil ___, scientists still have not ___the process by which oil is produced.
这两个选项：
1. creation investigated
2. genesis established

我做的时候选的1.因为看到extensive efforts to determine，而第二空应该是没下功夫去研究，但是答案是2.解析说establish 对应determine，1的第二空不合题意，这答案也太不清楚了吧, 为什么不合题意。

因为语义

用找东西来比喻
investigate 是“找”
established 是“找到”
extensive efforts 是“找了很久”

而 have not investigated 和 extensive efforts 互驳

那意思是要选investigate? 可是这里答案是establish啊？

科学家们已经做出了“找”这个动作，也就是extensive efforts，也就是你想选的investigate，所以就不能选 still have not investigate了，而是还没有达到下一个程度；establish-建立一种theory之类的，也就是investigate的结果。

那个找的动作是让步句形容石油起源的啊，主句说的是过程
