The reading passage explores the phenomenonthat there is a growing number of people los interests in literature and thegeneral level of culture is low. The professor’s lecture deals with the samesubject. However, she thinks that the modern culture level doesn’t depend onlyon the literature and is not declining. And in the lecture, the professor usesthree specific points to support her idea.
Initially, the professor asserts that othergenus of books are as stimulating as literature does, whereas the author of thereading passage claims that lack of bathing under literature, people will losecreation and imagination. The professor proves this claim is indefensible bypointing out that forms other than literature, such as science fiction, historyand politics analysis are of high quality and they also will bring new ideas tohuman’s minds.
Moreover, despite the statement of thereading that people are wasting time which should be devoted to literature bywatching TV and so forth, the professor holds that there are various types ofways to enhance one’s culture qualities. She supports this point with the factthat enjoying music or watch a motivating movie is not a little worse than readingliterature. In other words, the professor states that culture is consecutivelyaltered with time and she believes that types other than literature projectedideas more directly and effectively into contemporary. This is incompatiblewith the article’s viewpoint.
The professor’s last stance concerns on thefinal notion of the reading referred to insufficient supports to literature. The professor argues in the lecture that the modern writer is to large degree responsiblefor this unpleasant phenomenon. In light of professor, modern writers’ work is unreasonablyunderstandable to readers. Obviously, this argument disproves its counterpart inwhat the reading states.
In a nutshell, the contents of the readingpassage are completely refuted by the lecture and the lecture advocates totallydifferent ideas on the central standpoint of the reading.

Do you agree ordisagree with the following statement: It was easier to succeed in the pastthan it is today.

Admittedly, chances for the people in the past seem to be affluent, whereas in this rapidpace of development world now, a growing number of people wake up and devotethemselves to this competitive world. However, after deliberation, I stillbelieve I will not side with this statement. From my own perspective, withmodernization and urbanization, people will hold fast their dreams and achievetheir goals more easily than people did in the past.
The main reason for my propensity is thatthe society now is fully developed to handle and help people with novelty ideas. As is known to all, today is the era of information. This era is venerablycalled information exploration. How could this phenomenon of both sociology andtechnology foster people to fare well? The answer is almost self-evident.People nowadays could acquire information they need within seconds. They canrealize their dreams as long as these dreams will contribute to people’sdevelopment. There are banks ready to lend money to you; there are variousorganization to create platforms for you; There are internet that enables youto spread your ideas to every corner of this world. Did these essential and significantbenefits exist in the past? No. It is conventional wisdom that the road leadingto this new world and incredible changes are full of pioneer’s efforts and deadbodies. Who are those pioneers who pathetically didn’t live long enough to seetheir successes? People in the past!
A more essential reason why I disagree thatpeople in the past was easier to succeed than today it that successes are nevereasy. It requires high demands of persistence, intelligence and guts, no matterpeople nowadays or in the past. The path to success is equally with difficultiesand disappointments. What plain truth that I am presenting here is timelinessdoes matter, but it can’t be the decisive element in the process of success.Though there are a wealth of demerits nowadays compared to the past, I firmlybelieve that if one has the courage and perseverance in his dreams, nothings couldstop the man to succeeded.
In conclusion, through my carefulillustration above, we could draw the safe conclusion that it is wise to upholdthat even though you went back through to the past, it would not mean you havemore chance to succeed. |
