Most people are taught that loyalty is a virtue. But loyalty—whether to one's friends, to one's school or place of employment, or to any institution—is all too often a destructive rather than a positive force.
Some people hold a statement that loyalty is often a destructive rather than a positive force to one's friends, to one's school or place of employment. However, loyalty is a virtue handed down by generations, which we should insist to rather than abandon especially in this changing society full of disguise and distrust.
Loyalty means trust between friends, and this would bring both much convenience and assistance. Friendship is build on the foundation of mutual interest, hobbies, attraction and so on, and most people in modern society need friendship to content their heart and repel loneliness. In the changing society there are cheating and mistrust everywhere, and a friend is the most valuable fortune from whom we could get help with no need to return, trust without plea, support with no more words, comment without prejudice. What a precious thing! In order to maintain this fortune, loyalty is the first and most important requirement we should stick to. If we betray our friends behind them, for example, telling another person about our friends' private affairs or blaming our friends without their presence, the friendship would suffer irreversible damages and we would surely lose the precious fortune. To avoid this, we would better be loyal to our friends and this would win the fidelity of our friends too.
Family also needs loyalty to maintain its integrity and harmony, which is important for the growth of their children. If a husband or wife betray his or her counterpart, the marriage would be in danger, and there may be a lot of quarrels and even a lawsuit, which cost both money and energies. What's more, the parents would set an ill example for their children. With this bad impression, the children are more likely to have problems with their marriage too. Also, the divorce would leave the children with only one parent, I have ever seen some children of this kind who are hardly happy all the day and may become defective in their characters when they have grown up. From this we can conclude that we should maintain loyalty to keep family integrate and harmonious.
Things are same with a company. The fidelity of its employees would be crucious for its survival and development. On the one hand, a loyal employee would keep the secret of the company, which is highly appreciated in the competitive business market. On the other hand, the loyal employees would stay in a company for a long time, which is good for the maintaining of the company spirit and sustaining development of the company.
However, loyalty does not mean blindly defer to one another. If a friend has some mistakes, we should point out them to him or her, in order to help our friend to make progress. If our company have some illegal actions, we also should point out them, since this is more benefit for the further development.
In conclusion, loyalty is a precious merit we should inherit from our ancestors and traditions, in order to have a life full of friendship, a family with harmony and a job in a united and continuous developing company. The loyalty is a positive rather than destructive force for the development of our society. |
