_____    Complete the federal Application to Extend/Change Status (Form I-539) Note: On Part I of the Application, there is a place to write your address.  PLEASE DO NOT write your current address.  Instead, please use the following address:
_____ Check or money order $200.00, payable to US Citizenship and Immigration Services
_____ Receipt of $100 federal SEVIS fee payment.  The payment is made on-line via credit card, or by mail, once you have been issued your SEVIS I-20 by our office.  We will provide you with information about paying the fee when we give you the I-20.
_____ Proof of financial support of at least $××××.  If your support is from personal or family funds, include the four most recent monthly bank statements for each account if from a U.S. Bank.  If the account holder is someone other than yourself, we will also require a notarized statement from the account holder, stating the account holder's relationship to you, and that the account holder is willing to provide for your educational expenses while at Binghamton.
_____ Photocopy of your I-94, US visa, passport ID page
_____ Photocopy of your dependent SEVIS I-20 (pgs 1 and 3) and copies of all previous dependent I-20s issued to you
_____ Photocopy of marriage certificate
_____ Photocopy of your spouse’s I-94, US visa, passport ID page
_____ Photocopies of spouse’s previous I-20s
_____ Official transcript from your spouse’s school
_____ Letter from your spouse’s international student office, verifying full time status for your spouse
_____ Evidence to establish that you have a of residence abroad to which you intend to return and your intention concerning departure from the United States, in the form of a letter addressed to: To Whom It May Concern (See below)

USCIS processing time for this type of application is usually up to 12 weeks  (or less) from the date of submission.

Evidence to Establish Residence Abroad to Which You Intend to Return and Intent to Depart from the United States:  Under U.S. law, all applicants for non-immigrant visas are viewed as intending immigrants unless they can convince the consular officer that they are not.  You must therefore be able to show that you have reasons for returning to your home country that are stronger than those for remaining in the United States, and intentions to depart the United States upon conclusion of your studies.  Evidence of a residence abroad are the things that bind you to your hometown, homeland, or current place of residence: job, family, financial prospects that you own or will inherit, investments, etc.  You should mention your specific intentions or promise of future employment, family or other relationships, how your planned educational objective will be useful in your home country, long-range plans, and career prospects in your home country. Each person's situation is different, and there is no magic explanation or single document, certificate or letter that can guarantee approval.  If you submit any document in a language other than English, it must be completely translated. Also, the translator must certify that the translation is accurate and that he or she is competent to translate.  Note: you must submit the requested foreign language document along with the translation.
