Technology enhancement requires economy globalization which brings us a modern life and much convenience, at the same time, some persistent globalization social problems which it has resulted in have never stopped troubling us. Like the environmental pollution,the energy crisis, the warming up of the climate, etc. Then the suggestion toestablish a global university to solve the world’s most persistent socialproblems was generated. This suggestion has some valuable ideas in it but, as awhole, it is just idealism rather than realism.

Admittedly, to establish a global university where the students and faculty come from the different countries,have different cultural backgrounds and different education systems can therefore have diversified views, methods, and perspectives, this cultural conflict and view conflict can generate more creative views when dealing with the same social problem and they can share the merit and successful experiences from others to solve the problems in their countries. For example, abortion is treated as a severe ethic depravity and is legislatively prohibited in somecountry, but still carried underground frequently, while in other countries on the contrary, there might be little legislative limit or ethic pressure on such behavior, but the happening is much lower. Then we are lead to think that it ismore effective to change people’s ideas in the mind rather than legislative prohibition and can make some improvement or amendment in legislation or the conduction of social ethics. In this respect, global university is a place where the advanced ideas generate, and can do good for the whole nations.

Moreover, some persistent problems have aglobal nature and need to be solved by the cooperation of different nations.Like the environment problems, the clear-cutting of forests and exhauste mission lead to the warming-up in temperature, this is a global problem whichneed the protection from each corner of the global and cooperation from allover the world. Take another example, economic globalization, which themerchants want to realize their large interests by establishing factoriesworldwide and taking the advantage of cheap local labor force, raw materialsand energy. This means any fluctuation in one country would result in chain-reaction to the other countries. Apart from the above, the problems like energy crisis,poverty, terrorism all share a global nature, thus call for a global solution.In this sense, the global university provide a place for people from all of theworld to communicate and exchange ideas to settle these global problems.

However, through serious examine of the problems talking above, we find there is a radical key lying beneath—it’s the human nature, such as the aggression and greedy where most of the social problemsstem from.. All of which determines these problems are too different to solvethrough a university. Moreover, each nation has its own special cultural background, and consequently totally different codes for ethics, values andconductions. To reach any one—bottom solution to a problem seems unrealistic.

A second problem in obtaining the university’s goal is its students. As the students who just step into their adulthood, with little living experiences and vague cognition, it is hard forthem to have a comprehensive recognition of these social problems, let alone the way to solve them.

A final problem is for whom the universityis serve. To set up such a university calls for enough financial foundation.The countries with starvation problems are definitely unaffordable. Thus, ifthe problems of starvation of the poor countries and terrorism of the developed countries are put forward at the same time. Certainly the problems of countrywho gives the most financial support to the university would take priority tobe solved. Then it alters its first intention to serve for the whole human-being.

In sum, the global university can provideus a place to get deep insight of social problems,fair comparisons and analysis to find the complex intrinsic essences of the social illness. However, it stilllies in some problem in implementing it.
