TOPIC: ISSUE212 - "If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."

Everyone have his own pursuit and a goal. Moreover, this goal will worthy for them to attain it with any means in some human's mind. However, the definition of "worthy goal” varies by people which have different look to outside world and personalities. Otherwise, when in the process of pursuing a dream, the restrictions like laws and moral ethic must be considered in our blueprint to conduct our behaviors rather than implementing all the means that can achieve the termination, including crime or anti-humanity. Therefore, I disagree with the speaker's conclusion that in order to achieve the goal that one submits its value, we should use any means to chasing this goal.


To begin with, the definition in human's mind about "worthy" is different. We all know that, a remarkable leader will always view his primary responsibility as benefiting the whole society, whereas a bad one will benefit his own. The similarities on their pursuit is that they all consider what they have done was worthy. However, their dream could cause completely different results. The Hitler which realizes that to conquer the whole world is worthy and then incites the world war two without concerning the benefit of human-being. In the other hand, the president, Roosevelt considers that the war brought the world not the bright future but only the disaster. In his mind, the peace is a wonderful dream worth chasing. So his presented an opposed attitude about the serious war and participated in fighting to the invasion. Clearly, there is still no a standard about whether a goal is worthy or not.

Moreover, Even if there is a standard to define the worthy thing, when human pursue their goals, the measures used by them are still unable to offend the principles like human benefits, laws, moral ethic etc. The president, Lincoln realized the evil of slavery and had a strong desire to abandon this unfair institution. But the southern farmers in order to enjoy themselves by holding the slaves to produce huge value think that the president's suggestion is unacceptable. The president overcomes the difficulties from politic, economic and military and pursues his goal to free the black from the bondage. In this example, Lincoln’s pursuit is noble and just for his originated purpose based on the benefits of the society, whereas the southern farmers’ “worthy goal” is not worthwhile for their behaviors are harmful for the society. So, when human pursue his dream, their measure and actions must be just and do not offend the human principles.

In sum, the worthy things are always pursued by human-being and then advance the development of society. In this process, we must keep calm because the measures used by us may be harmful for the whole society.
