TOPIC: ISSUE7 - "The video cameraprovides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that ithas become a more important form of documentation than written records."



The developing technology has changed ourlife in all aspects. And as the video camera could provide a more accurate andconvincing record than the traditional written record, it is seemed like thatthe video record is much more important. However, the statement is one-sided asit ignores the advantages of written records which videos cannot instead of.

Admittedly, the camera video could recordour life more lively. Thanks to these camera records, we can see the way how wegrow up. Maybe you have forgotten that something interesting like you faileddown when you were learning how to walk. And maybe you have forgotten themoving moment such as that when you finally enter your dream school. There are somany important moments that we should remember but we failed to, because wecannot against the nature that our memory is not good enough to remembereverything. In the past, we can review these moments by reading our dairies andimaging the past moment. But now, thanks to the developing of technology, justthough watching these lively videos, we can find these missing moments. Inthese aspects, the video record is indeed better than written documents.

However, these do not mean that videorecords are more important than written records. In fact, written records aremuch better and more important than camera records in sometimes. For example,when we sign some assignment, written documents are much more convincing thanvideo records, since the later could be revised or changed by using somespecial computer skills. Beside these, the movie can be another instance. Somemovies are based on some famous novels, even if the actor/actress preformedwell, the movie is hard to alternate the novel. The reason is simple that thesemovies, which are performed by actors and actresses, are a reflection mostly basedon these performers. Yet, we all know that different readers acknowledge thesame work in totally different ways. It is entirely possible that there is amovie you like which suit to your feeling but I will not agree with your choice.In my mind, the movie is just rubbish for me. So in these aspects, we can seethat sometimes too accurate is not always good.

In fact, as we have seen from the signdocuments example mentioned above, that in the current time, the video recordis not so told accurate and convincing any more. The computer technologydevelops so fast that we cannot image. Now I can just click my mouse or push somekeyboard buttons to change a video record easily. These Photoshop or some othersoftwares make the skill manageable even for an ordinary citizen. So how couldyou know that the video as a proof has not been revised? Most times it is hardto have a conclusion. And as far as I know, sometimes these video cannot be aproof in the court. In contrast, the assignment is much more believable.

To sum up, video record is indeed help usfind out our lost memories and it is indeed better than written records in somemoment. We cannot get the conclusion, however, that these camera records aremore important than written records. It is unfair to ignore the necessary ofthe written documents, as they can give us a sky of imagination and a mean ofsecurity. To make our future much more colorful, both of them are needed andimportant.
