As nowadays social issues has almost influenced all nations in many aspects including living environment, social progress and economical increase. A global university -as speaker described -which is supported by all nations to engage students in the advancement of solving the world's most persistent social problems seems indeed. However, to build such a university is quixotic due to lack of realism.
There is no denying a fact that social issues were, are and will be existed throughout the human's history, some are the left ones made by ancient government while some are the new ones created by modern technological development. These social problems contain poverty, violence, global warming, drugs pollution and so on are with a nature of complexity which means with no possibility can anyone be solved if it breaks away from the other ones. Selling drugs is a result of poverty, and drugs lead to violence. It is impossible that only through supporting the development of a global can all nations solve these social problems which have been remained for even centuries, after all, a university's capability is limited just the same as government and other departments. We cannot rely on a single university to save human society.
Here is another flaw in this design. Considering global university may be a great idea for tackling social issues, the practice may not be feasible to carry out for that some undeveloped or developing countries are not willing to provide their help due to their citizens are living in the winds and rains, and cannot eat enough. Some nations are at war of defending their nation safety, it is no hope to make them give supports in global university, some are suffering from natural disasters, they are in deadly deed of the immediate help from other countries. And also, as a result of disability for undeveloped countries to support in the finance, the university may become the special school worked for developed nations in the end. This subject which seems perfectly normal may look offensive to some ones, thus it is not realistic for all nations.
Additionally, if this global university has been taken into work normally, problems come when take consideration of setting courses. Common sense tells me that different people give different answers due to their different cultural backgrounds, religion beliefs and national spirits. China may concern more about pollution, USA may care drugs, violence a lot, Australia may pay more attention to global warming while Vietnam may put the emphasis on poverty. It is quite hard to make an accordant criterion when valuing diversity of students' solutions to social issues, on some level, such kind of school may just be a dream
To sum up, the purpose of this global university is to put all nations' power together to solve social problems in order to make human society advanced, though university is a good plan, it cannot make such effect at all. Therefore, strengthen the cooperation and communication between nations is the most effective way to trace back to the root of these problems and take them out.
