Why we must choose between tradition and modernization? Because they are different and incompatible as the topic described? As to me, different definitions between tradition and modernization cause different results. So I can not agree with this topic completely.
To begin with, how can we define the words" tradition"? If tradition means old, out of fashion and irrational, and at the same time, modernization means young, fresh and new power. Then, they are different and even incompatible. We must choose modernization instead of tradition. In science realm, fresh blood will replace the old one, because by researching a new and more perfect theory was out to teach more and devote more than it used be. For example, we consider the time without plane as tradition, and consider the time with plane as modernization. The former must be replaced by the latter, because it is a trend which towards more convenient live.
On the other hand, we consider tradition as history when we consider modernization as development. Then they are helpful and influence on each other, which we can not choose only one of them both. I remembered that a famous American female writer Pearl Buck once said that if you want understand today, you have to search yesterday. It is to say that it is important to research the history, because it can tell many useful and meaningful information such as experience of our ancestors. To this extent, we can not ignore the importance of tradition. For example, we learn how to make fire from our ancestors; how to make cloths from our ancestors and so forth. Those all we can call them history which makes us more intelligent and effective. So we can not merely choose modernization though it seems to be more useful.
Many people have many ideas about how to define and how to understand the meaning of both words. According to different understanding, different answer would be supported. We can choose one of them, when they are incompatible means, but mostly we see them as the same.
In sum, I can not concede with this idea very indeed. This one also should be determined on a case-by-case basis.
