TOPIC: ISSUE153 - "Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."
论点:学习过程中怀疑比被动接受重要,特别是在高等教育中。但是二者都是学习的必要过程,前者不能替代后者
The speaker contends that students should be skeptical in their studies, and should not accept passively whatever they are taught. I agree with the speaker on the point that skepticism is more evaluable and crucial in learning process especially in high-level education. But Questioning and passive acceptance are both indispensable processes during study which can’t be replaced by one another.

怀疑对于有意义学习是不可缺少的环节
Skepticism is an essential procedure in successful learning. Bruner, a world known educational psychologist describe study as a process during which new information is assimilated into knowledge structure –how knowledge represent in mind of one’s own. Skepticism to new knowledge triggers assimilation. Asking why or why not means one intends to solve the conflict between what he knows and what he learns. Do you still remember what you thought when you were first told that the earth is a globe? Flat land theory yet seems to make more sense because you never see the ground curve in the far end. Then the skepticism rises. And primary geometry tells that the bigger a globe the less curvy the surface, thus the conflict is solved . In this way, we successfully learned that the earth is a globe.
怀疑在自然科学和社会科学学生的生活中占有很大比重  
Taking bigger perspective instead of one of concrete learning process, insightful skepticism in study promotes development and progress of both social and nature science. The world of Physics is replete with theories and discoveries which are resulted from skepticism to what were originally taught. For example, Copernicus challenged the notion that the earth was in a fixed position at the center of the universe basing on observation and experimentation. His achievement is the best proof of the value of skepticism to prevailing knowledge being widely taught . In the field of social science , students are trained to think critically towards statistics, social events and media messages. Ceaselessly asking why or why not helps us discriminate the truth and draw useful conclusions from chaotic swamp of information. Students of sociology always check assumptions underlying statistics and see whether they embody causal link or just casual unsubstantiated relation.

Vital as skepticism is to study, it’s an overstatement to say we hold skepticism to everything we learn. Passive acceptance, a concept defined in psychology, though not encouraged in learning process, takes up a considerable amount of knowledge we learn such as symbols, words and facts. Knowledge structure in our mind is build on those basic items based on which people reason, synthesize and also doubt. For young children, it’s indeed necessary to enable them used to ask questions. But most of the time teachers explain and demonstrate trying to make student understand the teaching content instead of answering questions. Because it is the most productive way for children to learn. Besides young children learning, in the field of skill and move leaning, it’s absolutely all passive acceptance. The law of copying, practicing and shaping is strictly followed when learning skills or certain moves.
To sum up, skepticism is important both in particular learning process or personal development of a nature or social science student. Yet it can not replace passive acceptance because it’s an uneliminated and productive learning process especially for young children. And in the field of skill acquisition, it’s passive acceptance that plays the whole part.

I agree with the speaker on the point that skepticism is more evaluable and (亲爱滴,没有more 哈,而且evaluable 应该不这么用吧)crucial in learning process especially in high-level education. But Questioning and passive acceptance are both indispensable processes during study which can’t be replaced by one another. (其实读起来还是有点咯牙的,试试看别的表达方式呢?)

echo的逻辑还是很不错的,但是有时候句子读起来比较咯牙
