Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students should not take part-time jobs while they are studying in universities.
Recently, the issue of taking part-time jobs has been in the limelight. Contrary to widely accepted idea that taking patr-time jobs will occupy students's time and distracted their attention on study, I argue that it is a good idea for colleage students to work while in school.
Having working experience while young adds to the process of growing up, and helps young people to mature in his or her outlook and behavior. They will learn how to communicate with adults besides their parents and teachers. In addtion, they will have the chances to learn how to follow instructions and take "orders", which are pretty vital in their future lives. For instance, if a boy had rich working experience before he graduate, that would put him in a favorable position in future job markes. After all, every employer wishes to hire a experienced and mature person, rather than to hire a childish one who needs more professional training.
Aside from gaining working experience, another merit I have to mention is that taking part-time jobs make it possible for students to live at ease and to less their families' economic burden. That is, they will be able to pay for some goods themselves if possible. According to a recent survey, 32% of the colleage students have heavy financial problems in China, and a majority of them chose to take part- time jobs during holidays and the long summer break. These students said that they could be able to buy their computers and bikes due to the pay from the part- time jobs.
Finally, young people could learn the value of money. Having to work for one's own spending money is quite different from simply receiving money from one's parents. Admittedly, students will spend less time on study of major courses. However, the real point is that students will have access to learn more crucial lessons--- how to manage money wisely and the value of saving money. Last semester, for instance, I intended to buy a new cellphone since my old one was broken. Thus, I worked for a school cafeteria for two months. Enventually, I bought myself a new one. At the same time, I really realized the difficulty and hardship of earning money.
All in all, taking into account the factors above we may safely draw the conclusion that it is beneficial and meaningful for colleage students to take part-time jobs.
