As I know, normally, the first interview between a lawyer and a client is for free. In that first interview, the client talks with the lawyer about his problems and the lawyer introduces the hourly rate he will charge that client if he decides to accept the case later. Since the first meeting is for free, the lawyer might not offer some substantive and valuable advices. So do not expect too much on the first interview.
Actually, I've never gone through any legal participation in the U.S. What I said above is completely from books . Still, I think it won't hurt to give a first try if you have time.
