Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students should not take part-time jobs while they are studying in universities.
Today, it is commen to see university students taking part-time jobs outside campus at expense of their leisure time. As for this phenomenon, some teachers and parents (are) worried that taking part-time job will occupy students’ time for accomplishing their study tasks, having negative influence(effects) on their academic records(performance). However, in my opinion, such worry is unnecessary ,and conversely, working outside campus will do(bring) a lot benefits to university students.
Taking part-time job is a kind of need for some students who have unideal(unsatisfactory) financial condition. It is obvious that the main popurse of taking part-time job is getting money. Not every family can afford the tuition for their children, so if they can’t get the scholarship and are not willing to loan from banks, the third way is finding a part-time job and making money by themselves. In the modern society which encourage independence , there is no reason to forbid one person’s intension of standing on its own feet(one’s intention to stand on his or her own feet).In terms of the worry that taking part-time job will reduce study time and lead to undesirable academic outcomes, I can’t agree more. However, in most universities, arrangements of courses are not intensive. Students have a lot free time to do whatever they want. Taking part-time job will definitely reduce their free time but not their study time. Besides, such reduction of free time can drive students to accomplish their study tasks more effectively(efficiently) and enforce them to learn how to schedule their time.
In addition, students can gain many skills that can’t learn in the classes through their working experience outside campus. Almost everyone in the university is student or teacher, while these people are only a small part of the whole society. By taking part-time job, students can get to know the world ouside campus and learn how to communicate and cooperate with other people who are not their classmates. Such experience will be of huge significance when they graduate from the university and have to(删) adapt to the society.
In conclusion, it is ridiculous to deprive students’ right of having part-time job. On the contrary, students should be encouraged to work outside campus in their free time to gain social skills and make an effective arrangement of their four years’time in university.
