09.03.07NA    Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teachers should not show their social or political views in the classroom.

There is a hit discussion concerning that whether teachers should show their social or political views in the classroom. Many people believe that it is necessary for teachers to tell their students what they think about the society. Contrary to the opinion of those people is my heartful objection to the idea that teachers show their social or political views in the classroom.

Admittedly, there is no no way around the fact that teachers’ proper views about society and politics would bring students a lifetime benefit. We can cite a simple example of George Washington, former President of United States, who learnt a lot about the importance of freedom from his teacher since he was just a kid. When he grew up, he started to fight for the freedom of people all over America and finally succeeded. Without the social views of his teacher, George Washington would definitely not achieve such success.

Considerable though the benefits of showing social and political views by teachers in class is, they can not compete with the drawbacks that would bring unexpected bad effects in students’ future development and even progress of our society. My first reason lies in that showing teachers’ social and political points in classroom will hint the development of students’ critical thinking, which is essential to the progress of our society. For example, students who has learnt the views of teachers’ view in that whether it is right to go to work by bus would not think more about this. While those who asked to think by themselves would obviously think about the benefits and shortcomings of that before comming to the conclusion. It would be not be too great an exaggeration that not showing social views in class is better to the forming of students’ critical thinking.

Furthermore, teachers’ unproper political views, under somce circumstances, would help students form unproper views toward the society and even the world. We may cite the example of Adolf Hitler, who has been taught again and again about the importance of conquering the world as a students in class. Finally, he started the World War II shortly after becoming president of Germany. Another example cames from the education of Japan in 1930s, when children are taught that it is necessary to invade other neighbor nations, which brings disasters to millions of people in Eastern Asia. When we see the drawbacks of showing political views in class, isn’t it necessary for us to avoid such phenomena?

In conclusion, I admit that teachers’ proper views toward society and politics would help students a lot. However, by presenting the bad effects of brining teachers’ social and political views in class, we can easily draw the conclusion that teachers should not bring social and political views in class.

09.03.29 do you agree or disagree, students will not use printed books anymore.$ s' \, y7 _!

There is a hit discussion for a long time concerning whether students will not use printed books in the future. Even though there are one or two disavantages for using printed books such as resource wasting or high costs compared with ebooks, there are far more advantages for students to use printed books which convince me that they will still use printed books.

First of all, some minor disavantages for using printed books include both resoure consuming and relatively high costs. For example, to print books, we have to cut down millions of tree to make paper, which is essential to book printing. As far as I am concerned, cutting a lot of trees will waste a lot of precious forest resource available in the world nowadays, bringing us even more serious ecological problems. Moreover, we also have to pay a lot of money to buy books compared with the ebooks we could get from internet.

Even though there are a couple of disavantages to using printed books, the advantages of printed books far outweigh them. My first reason is that printed books are more convenient. For example, people can read books anywhere in the campus without taking a heavy computer. All we have to do is to put a book, maybe about philosophy or geography, in their bags. We can enjoy our reading time in the shadow of green trees without wondering the power will be off. Moreover, we can turn pages more easily by reading printed books. Whenever we want to find anything we just read before, we can find it as soon as possible. While for ebooks, we may spend a lot of time browsing the contents.

Furthermore, a lot of ancient materials are printed books, which are fragile and could not be converse into ebooks. Students majoring in philosophy and literature are largely likely to read books about ancient thoughts of Greeks, which are preserved in library as printed forms. It is these books, especially precious and important, that would still play an important role in students’ studying. Students who want to go deep into the academic world of philosophy would definitely have to read printed books as the ebooks could not satisfy their appetite for knowledge aquiring. That is to say, printed books will obviously play an important role in students studying lives.

Although I agree that there might be one or two disavantages of printed books, I feel that the advantages are more obvious. Printed books may be, to some degree, resource wasting and expensive. However, considering the convenience and the necessity of precious printed books, I believe that students will still use printed books.
