第一篇综合 OG P250 关于 In many organizations, perhaps the best way to approach certain new projects is to assemble a group of people into a team.那篇。。
In the lecture, the professor completely opposes the ideas stated in the reading section that the optimal way to accomplish a certain goal of a project is forming a team to execute it. He proves his opinion by giving those three reasons.
First of all, the professor disapproves the idea that taking part in a group process, a team member can be rewarded and each individual in the team has much better chance to be noticed. Professor claimed that an individual member may not contribute so much during the process while he can as well share the achievements made by the minority when the project succeeds. However, these contributor wouldn’t be noticed as the special ones and get what they deserved in the end.
In addition, some projects didn’t move efficiently as the reading indicates. According to the reading section, a group tends to have more resources, like the knowledge, expertise and skills than an individual, they can finish assigned tasks in a shorter time. But from the professor, truth is reversed. Most plans require team members to reach consensus before they are performed. Because different people have different ideas, many meetings are needed to be held, which would inevitably waste a vast amount of time.
Finally, unlike the opinion given by the reading section that a team is more likely to have a risky spirit and put up with innovative ideas. In the case that a team has one or more than one influential person, the situation may become that everyone agrees with what the core person agrees and disagrees with what he is opposed to. This would probably lead the team to miss some innovative and constructive ideas made by the normal member, and gradually the whole team just loses its risky spirit.

第二篇独立 124. Is it more important for students to study history and literature than to study science and mathematics?
We can see many universities nowadays have a policy that students, no matter what majors they take, must study courses involves both of history, literature and sciences, mathematics. I think it is a really good measure because students can have more chances to be exposed to a wide range of knowledge, gain some useful skills as well as develop good qualities, which would eventually exert a far-reaching impact on the society as a whole. From this, we can see the significance of history and literature completely equates with that of sciences and mathematics, students are supposed to pay equal emphasis on both sides.
First of all, let’s take a look at the reasons that students go to school or college. Besides acquiring some professional knowledge of a certain field, preparing themselves for a future job, the most importantly I think, they hope to be an all-round person. For school part, they should provide students with the valuable chances to be accessible to those great minds in human history though literature and history. Assuming a student who majors in biography, he spends most of his time everyday doing different experiments and explores the truth in his field. By inspiring him to spend some time on a music course or a literature-related course, the student is able to expand his knowledge and may even change the way he used to think. When he comes across difficult professional issues next time, he may consider it in a new and different vision. So that we can avoid a bad situation that many years later that the student just becomes a working machine, making money by those biographic knowledge but lacks the ability to appreciate the beauty in life.
Learning some science or mathematics is a good way to acquire some useful skills and develop good qualities, especially for arts students. I can remember in the very first day I entered my university, starting my major study of France. I found a course called calculus appearing in my curriculum schedule. Not only me, but also many of my classmates are surprised by this arrangement, because there seemed no direct connection between calculus and our major. The course then proved to be a really hard task to me. Since I am really not a careful person, sometimes only a counting cost me over one hour, I just repeatedly do the calculation. After school, we students also formed a study group to jointly solve some difficult problems. A term later, we found we are far better acquainted with each other and have developed a corporative spirit.
And I, myself also do things more carefully in the life.

From what has been discussed above, we can see both literature, history and science, mathematics do help to our personal qualities and useful skills in different ways, which later enables us to solve different kinds of problems we come across in the work. Thus the society as
a whole can advance in a good balance.
