Do you agree that the government should support the scientific research even there’s no practical use?
One key element that determines one country’s power is the development of science. In a word, we can tell the difference of the developing countries and developed countries obviously in scientific research. However, it doesn’t mean we should do some research that is just limited in the purpose of practical use.
Throughout human’s history, from sculpture to art, human are trying their best to show the beautiful of nature. The art, for example, we enjoy art because of joy, thought, exciting and other emotions. We always think of art as abstract but it gives many things. The case is also consistent with the scientific research that is lack of practical use, because the nature is art, and we do research in order to explore the nature. Whatever the scientific is lack of no practical use or not, we should support both of them.
Moreover, in the evolution of human being, it is too many mysterious that is waiting us to find out. Such as, how human could move upright and how human evolved from monkey and so on. The research like this is obviously lack of practice use, but it is not meaningless. If we even don’t know how we came into being, and we are not desirable to find out, it would be nonsense to do other scientific research, because all the researches have the same purpose that is to find problems and to solve them. Some problems, such as evolution, are fundamental.
Furthermore, it is too early to judge the function of some researches that are regarded as no practice use now. We could not foretell the future the result of the research, just like we could not foretell the theoretical physics of past and its role of modern physics. We could not foresee the function of Einstein’s abstract theory and the function of math. But all of them play a significant role and we could never ignore them. So do some no practice use research.
In conclusion, even though some research seems no practical use, it is just limited in a short period of time. Just the proverb saying, “Everything in the nature has the reasons of being and the purpose.” Based on the reasons listed above, I strongly think the government should support some research that has no practical use. |
