TPO 4 Writing: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: in twenty years there will be fewer cars in use than there are today.

In the last few decades, the amount of cars has been booming. As far as I am concerned, however, this tendency will not last long. Probably, there will be fewer cars in use after twenty years.

First, the increasing oil price will restrict people to use cars. As we all know, the resource of the earth is unfortunately limited. The petroleum cannot cater to our endless need. It will be next to impossible for every car owner to afford the high cost of petrol. Some people will have to abandon the thought of using cars. As a result, the amount cars will decrease.

In addition, as there are more and more catastrophes happened all over the world, people will gradually be aware of the environment. The fume of cars is harmful to the air circumstance. It will cause a variety of bad influence, such as global warming and acid rains. Eventually, all of this will make people’s life harder. People will be willing to reduce the use of cars to protect the environment.

Furthermore, the enhancing public transport will compensate for the utility of cars. Our government is paying a large scale of money every year for the construction of highways, subway lines and airports. After twenty years, travel by public transport will be as convenient, if not more convenient, as using cars. And it must be much inexpensive than cars. Therefore, public transport may become a better choice for people.

Above all, the price of oil, the environment and the public transport, all of these can affect the amount of cars. Will the car decrease really happen? We should see.
