All school teachers should berequired to take courses every five years to update their knowledge.
Should teachers update their knowledgeat intervals? For a long time, this is a serious issue for intensedebate in our society. Accompanied with fast social development, moreand more people, including me, suggest that teachers should keepstudying as soon as possible.
First and foremost, taking coursesregularly can help teachers to keep up with social development.Particularly, in our time now, everything changes so fast. Moreover, huge amount of new knowledge in many disciplines has shown up day byday. For instance, the high-tech of clone has just appeared in recentyears though many old professors in biology still deny it; many newelements in chemistry have come to our world due to the PeriodicTable; mathematical experts are now crazy about challenging manyaxioms, though seeming to be silly; sociological scientists areengaged in searching for new models to settle down many problemsexisted in our society. Under such circumstance, how can a teacherfollow the step steps of the socialadvancing without studying all the time?
What’s more, updating periodically isnot only necessary to meet the need of self-development but alsoresponsible for their students. Unlike the students in the past, young men nowadays are more eager to know something new rather thanreceive old mechanical knowledge. If a teacher does not keep study, how can he/she explain a new complicated phenomenon to the students?I can never think a better example to illustrate this point. On dayin my biology class, my teacher was talking about gene genes.Suddenly, a boy stood up and asked: “dear teacher, could you pleaseexplain what happened when a man’s cell meet an animal one such asa deer?” Then, my teacher got angry, stopped him and insisted thatit was ridiculous. However, this was not! Recently, a baby of a manand a deer has really shown up in the experiment lab in London.Concerning this case, my teacher is definitely irresponsible.
Finally, in the psychologicalperspective, learning more is a great drive for a teacher to do agood job, as British Poem Chaucersaid, “Glad to learn, glad to teach”. If teachers can take somecourses to update knowledge, they may get excited, probably willingto share with others. So, they are more likely to teach theirstudents with the new knowledge they have got through studying. Oneinvestigation in my school has shown that the teacher who learnsomething new will feel exciting when they are in class, while otherswho have no idea about new knowledge may feel tired and boring.
Insum, if there is one teacher can keep efficiency without furtherstudy-which I take leave to doubt- then he/she must be living in thepast. Hence, regular upgrading process is really necessary for teachers nowadays, not only a great wealth for themselves but also more responsibilityfor their students.
