I essentially agree with this statement that facts are not able to be altered by our wishes, inclinations, and our passions though sometimes people have the capacity to create facts. To my certain knowledge, the intention of people can only have an effect on a thing or a process before it turns into a fact that should be considered as unchangeable existence.

First of all, there is much real and factual existence that people can change by no means in our daily lives. For example, the law of nature that things will decay away with time no matter is irresistible how solid and tough they are and how long they will subsist. Just the same, every human being is predestined to experience the life process of birth growth, and death however strong and health he or she may be. All these are as objective as the phenomenon that Sun arises from the east every morning and falls down in the west every afternoon and never subject to human wishes or inclinations.

However, sometimes people can have an effect on facts according to their own will. In a political election, for an instance, two candidates are vying for the position of President. Then it is due to the voters to make the "fact"---the result that which one is to be voted into the power. To be more personal, one can decide by his own will that whether he is going to go to a college, get married, buy a new car, attend a concert or even have a drink. Clearly, different decision made by people will lead to deferent results---the facts, that is, under some circumstances, we have an important or even determinant effect on a fact.

But the ability of man to determine a fact does not means that one are capable of altering a fact. One might argue that if he decides to buy a car, then the fact will be that he has a new car, but if he changes his mind to buy a bicycle, then the fact will be that he possesses a new bike. Thereby, he changes the fact. However, as a matter of fact, what he changes is the possibility instead of the fact. Before a possibility is carried out into reality, it cannot be regarded as a fact. Before a new car or bicycle is purchased, there will be no such facts but two possibilities. In short, one can only change the process through which a fact is turned out instead of the fact existing.

In sum, there are many facts on which we cannot have an effect and many others on which we can pose an impact. However, whatever we tend to impose on them, we can never change an existing fact.
