Biography


Peter Fagiola holds the MFA degree in World Music from the California Institute of the Arts and received his BAS in Music Education and Performance from SUNY Potsdam.

He has studied North Indian pakhawaj and tabla drumming and music theory with Pt. Taranath Rao and Pt. Amiya Dasgupta, pakhawaj with Manik Munde, tabla with Ray Spiegel, Balinese Gamelan with I. Nyoman Wenten, Ghanaian drumming and dance with Kobla and Alfred Ladzekpo, Dzidzogbe Lawluvi and C.K. Ganyo, Nigerian dun dun drumming with Frances Awe, percussion, hand drumming and South Indian drumming with John Bergamo and Western/European classical and contemporary music with Ronald Gould and James Petercsak.
  

Peter is a free-lance musician residing in upstate New York. He performs in a wide variety of musical situations, ranging from original projects to traditional Indian programs.

Some of his recorded works include a solo CD titled Elements, a suite for solo frame drums and percussion, and a CD of Indian classical music, Beginnings, featuring Peter's pakhawaj playing. Presently he is recording a new CD with the group Jago.

Artists that he has worked with include Alfred and Kobla Ladzekpo and C.K. Ganyo (Ghanaian music and dance), Frances Awe (Nigerian Master drummer of the Yoruba tradition), John Bergamo, Lou Harrison, Paul Horn, Allen Ginsberg, Amiya Dasgupta, Ramesh Mishra, Ray Spiegel, Mitch Greenberg, Mark Nauseef, Mike Nord, Richard Carr, Steve Gorn, Shubha Sankaran, Shyam Das, Bahauddin Dagar and the Srishti dance ensemble.
