The following appeared in a memo from the director of student housing at Buckingham College.

"To serve the housing needs of our students, Buckingham College should build a number of new dormitories. Buckingham's enrollment is growing and, based on current trends, will double over the next 50 years, thus making existing dormitory space inadequate. Moreover, the average rent for an apartment in our town has risen in recent years. Consequently, students will find it increasingly difficult to afford off-campus housing. Finally, attractive new dormitories would make prospective students more likely to enroll at Buckingham."

Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.

The director of student housing at Buckingham College tries to persuade the college to build a number of new domitories based on housing needs. Theoretical double number of future students, rising average rent for off-campus housing, and the assumption that new dormitories would attract more students to enroll at the college, are the three evidences that the director uses to back the prediction of increasing in-campus housing demand. （However the argument is rife with holes and assumptions, and therefore not strong enough to lead to funding to build more dormitories.）

According to the director, Buckingham College should commit to building new dorms given the projected enrollment over the next 5 decades, the expected shortage of dorm space. He also argues that new dorms can help students who cannot afford off-campus apartments that have become more expensive in average and attract more prospective students to study at Buckingham.  

The director argues that more dorms should be built to meet the demand of housing among Buckingham students and to recruit more students to join the college.

The author tries to recommend a client to invest in Consolidated Industries by concluding that there will be an increased demand for heating oil. To justify this prediction the author cites the following facts about heating oil usage in the northeastern United States: (1) the region is typically cold and the traditional fuel for heating there is heating oil (2) there are several more years of below-normal temperatures in the region based on climate forecasters' statement (3) many new homes are being built because of recent population growth.

修改以后
According to the letter, the client should invest money in Consolidated Industries, because the consumption of heating oil will rise, which is traditionally used as major funeral for heating in the northeastern United States. The author claims that more heating oil usage is due to future winters which are expected to be extraordinarily cold for many years, and the increased population in this area.
