Core course in prob & stochastic, equity and interest rate + credit modelling, and a list of electives covering computational method, programming, statistics and finance....what do you really expect from a non-top-tier MFE?

I can't understand why I need to go over the Probability and Stochastic again, which take 30 credits. I'd rather to learn coding not to review the basic math. For the course 5+4, It's wasteful.
Thanks for ur opinion, I have never been to any Finance class before so what I care may be ridiculous.

well....not sure if you have taken stochastic calculus, processes before (I guess very likely for the 2nd one, but less likely for the first one), but it is a common practise for all MFE to have at least 1 stochastic calculus class (while another probability theory / stochastic process are normally elective instead of being a core like KCL). Given it is called financial mathematics, and it is from the maths school, having one more core course in maths sounds theoretical but reasonable.
I think it is way too mean to comment it as poor-structure just basing on 1 course out of 8, especially it is not something useless / irrelevant but just a bit theoretical from practitioner point of view (which you are not yet one).
and I suppose these classes are at graduate level instead of basic maths, given they have another course called mathematical analysis for preparation. unless you have taken those at graduate level (which is rare), this is not a review at all. Indeed those are the most difficult course within a MFE, and is a necessary foundation for any other advanced level derivatives modelling course.
P.S. and indeed, finance class are the easiest within a MFE generally.
Coding is important, but there are tons of ways for class with that (whatever online preparation C++ class (for MFE) is available everywhere).
If you want to have a more computational focus of MFE, I guess you should apply something from the engineering school (e.g. OR, CS department), instead of one from the math school too.
