I strongly agree that people should sometimes do things that they do not enjoy doing. Daily experience informs us that although some people are dedicated to what they really love all the time, they still account for a small proportion compared to those who are compelled to do things they dislike now and then. Followings are two major reasons.

On the one hand, doing things one does not really enjoy is one of the indispensable parts in our life. For example, most of us students might have similar feelings when we are cramming for tests, which is a familiar phenomenon in school. At that time, most of us are just forced to learn for tests rather than really enjoy the knowledge. We have no choice but to grin and bear it, because only through various exams can we access higher education and fulfill our dreams.

On the other hand, doing things one does not really enjoy seems to be one of the important measurements of EQ, that is, emotional quality, which is used to scale one’s mental status and potential abilities. Just like what I have mentioned above, few people are found to do what they like, which doesn’t necessarily mean that the majority can’t enjoy the happiness of success. On the contrary, many people do achieve a lot in their career even if they are doing what they dislike. It is just the so-called adversity that helps build one’s perseverance and stamina. Such adverse experiences are of great value to one’s maturity and development and finally contribute to one’s ultimate success.
