题目:"The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of cont emporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records"
With the incredible development of modern technology more and more convenient inventions are displayed in front of us, one of which is camera video, which provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life, and then some argue that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records. However I don’t agree with such a statement. Although scenes of our lives are able to recur truly by camera video, such as wedding, interview etc., there are many occasions in which written records are more effective even the only means we can adopt.
Firstly, camera video fails to record statistic. For instance, supposing that we want to record the data of students’ health of a school in some year, and is it feasible to fulfill it with the help of camera video? That’s unfeasible! Only by the way of written records can we record the data of students. Another good example is wedding. I admit that camera video do so well in recording actual scenes in wedding that the couple are able to preserve their most precious memory in their lives, however, if they try recording the cost of wedding, the number of people participant in wedding, and some other data relating to statistics, camera video has to be replaced by written records.
Secondly, camera video can only supply records of appearance but fail to capture what is hided in hearts of people. However, written records succeed in reflecting and depicting the internal world of people, by various literary skills. We can watch all kinds of novels, essays, news in journals which comprise considerable depiction of psychology, which often display some kind of shock before readers, because compared with external depiction, internal depiction is prone to arouse readers’ resonance. In such a condition, camera is a complete uselessness.
Thirdly, in some secret situation we have to resort to written records but not camera video in order not to offend others’ privacy. For instance, when journalists work some interviewees are not willing to face the camera videos because of some personal reasons. In such occasions the only things journalist can do is recording the content of conversation by written records,
Based on the reasons I have mentioned above I assert without any hesitation that though camera video do well in recording scenes of our lives, we should not deny the importance of written records, which is not possible to be substituted for camera video in many occasions. Utilizing camera video or written records is just depending on the condition. |
