----------题目----------
“In most professions and academic fields, imagination is mire important than knowledge.”
----------正文----------
At present, society always emphasizes the importance of knowledge, but ignores the significance of imagination. In fact, both of knowledge and imagination are essential in most professions and academic fields.
People who study or work in literature and arts realms may need more sense of imagination than people who work in other fields. After all, most of the literary works are imaginative in which writers make up imaginary characters, scenes and plots. Those wonderful imaginative works attract more attention and create more lasting and meaningful picture of human than news report and documentary. We cannot imagine if Homer epic poem only record the history literarily and Conan Dole just described the crimes and detective processes objectively, how dull these works would be, and we may lose interests in Sherlock Homes or forget Achilles and Odyssey in a short time. Arts usually portray unreal world by the prompt of producers’ emotion and imagination. Raphael never met any person in his famous painting the School of Athens, figures and many abstract things in the works of Picasso and Dali never existed in the world or were transfigured and exaggerated, but these do not impede most of us give praises them. Even though we emphasize the importance of imagination, it does not indicate that knowledge is not essential in arts and literature. Writers need to use words, build sentences and paragraphs constitute to literary works, so they should master the skills of pencraft. Moreover, the writer of historical fictions should understand history backgrounds of his/her fiction, writers of science stories should comprehend scientific knowledge, and as far as I know Conan Dole had extensive knowledge about various areas and close reasoning mind so he could write such vivid characters and thrilling plots. Raphael could create such fascinating works as he was skilled in the composition, color, and shadow line of the picture. Imagination could stimulate the inspiration, and we should use knowledge to expression the inspiration.
In the science and technology realm, not only need we imagination to point out new view and create new invents, but also need knowledge and logic. On one hand, we call for imagination to break conventional ways of thought, use new means to solve new problem, set up new thesis. If human never had imagined fly in the sky, there would not appeared the first plane Brother Wright invented successfully. Stephen Harking may not write down the Cosmos in Kernel about the thesis of space without certain imagination. On the other hand, we should not overlook the significance of knowledge, because it is the bridge connected the imagination and reality. We need knowledge to help us reverse imaginary works into real things, and use logical reasoning to build a strict thesis. Only has imagination but without knowledge will we cease step in fantasy.
When it comes into the government and business areas, it seems that knowledge plays more essential role in short term, but imagination shows its significance in long perspective. When confronting with problems such as AIDS epidemics, inflation and so forth, government officials may always gather leaders of relevant department and experts to analyses the situation and make a decision to solve problems with their knowledge. Nevertheless, insofar as the long term plans, such as recurrence of Hong Kong and Macao, we may need certain imagination combine with knowledge and reality as Deng Xiaoping pointed out “the same country, different systems”. We could use the knowledge about business and economy to solve the problems such as the decline of sales. To the contrast, we should have imagination to scheme the company’s long-term program.
To sum up, on one hand, as the British philosopher and mathematician Alfred North whitehead put it, “Imagination enables men to construct an intellectual vision of a new world, and it preserves the zest of life by the suggestion of satisfying purpose.”, people need imagination to explore new world. On the other hand, we also should have extensive knowledge to make the imagination into reality. (663) |
