答案是D，理由是that  代替the number     ,last year`s代替last year`s participants
为什么选A不可以呢？
把half 看成名词，把last year's 看成是代替last year's  number,我觉得这样也可以啊？？？为什么错呢？请高手指点，万分感激！！！

last year's指代的不是the number,而是marathon，原题的解释有点错误
所以如果选A的话，就指代不对等了
D的话就对了
