问一个小问题，英文中的引号，究竟是用双引号的多呢，还是用单引号的多呢？

我知道两种都对，纯粹是习惯问题。我在看ETS的Practicing to Take the GRE General Test时发现ETS喜欢用双引号。

我个人喜欢用单引号，可能是因为用Delphi习惯了的缘故吧～ :D

补充：觉得楼主写的似乎离题了，楼主全篇讲的都是要mind           independent，但其实这个issue是说“尽管很多人认为现在奢侈安逸的生活是无害的，但实际上这样的生活阻止了人们培养坚强独立的性格”。所以关键应该在现在生活是否阻止了人们培养坚强独立的性格
Without modern facilities, we could hardly do anything.
While, without such modern facilities, can we become truly strong and independent individuals?
It is important for us to realize the limitation of modern facilities and that potential danger which will be aroused if we lost our domination over modern facilities and too rely on them.

刚才找了本OALD查了一下附录，是这样说的：
In British usage qutation marks are usually single: 'Help!'.
In US usage they are usually double: "Help!".

你说得对，咱们应该用双引号。

我改作文的时候，感觉又回到了高中那个钻研语法的时代。这几年英文书看了不少，但是语法却全然“融入我的生命了”，脑子里几乎是没有一点儿痕迹了 :(。正在补习中。

再就是关于词法，我手头上讲词法的辞典（三本：Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English、Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary和Harrap's Essential English Dictionary）都是英国的，美国的M-W Collegiate和American Heritage Dictionary都不讲词的用法。不知美国有什么学习型的辞典？

这里应该不用[be]吧？
我查了LDOCE (Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English)，有这样的例句：
His attitude made him very unpopular with colleagues.
It was this movie which made him a star.

But today an intellectual soul is another kind of strong, which might be more important [nowadays].
在句子面前已经有today了，这个nowadays还需要加么？但是nowadays明显比today好，而且书面化，所以我把前面的today去掉了。

…, a race of higher stature and stronger muscle is more likely to stay[make them live] longer.
这句话我觉得没有什么问题：a race是主语，of higher stature and stronger muscle是定语后置，is to stay longer是谓语加补语，more likely是adverb。
LDOCE上有这样的例句：
Young drivers are far more likely to have accidents than older drivers.

prey/predator只用于动物捕猎的行为。人类狩猎应该用hunt/hunting。

解决完了语法问题，我觉得有必要重写这篇文章了。当时写的时候确实不知道要第一段末尾点明TS，最后一段conclusion要brief等等。现在正在重写。
