Argument145.
A new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes the person-often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed-and can leave the person too tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise more.

This argument can hardly stand up to any scrutiny for its several flaws.

Firstly, the reliability of the new study is worth questioning. This study concerns some people but provides no details about them, and thus it may not represent the whole and the real situation. Primarily, how many people join this study? Maybe only two who snore and twenty who do not snore are investigated while the general proportion between these two groups in the larger area is equal, if so the result cannot explain the exact situation for the overall population. Besides, what are the detailed physical or healthy conditions of these participants? Perhaps most people who snore are young students under age 20 and still growing and thus eat more and gain more weight; whereas those who do not snore are older and retired and thus have less and obtain little weight. In this case, gaining weight may be not due to the snore. Hence, the speaker should give more specific information to ensure the validity of the study.

Secondly, it is too arbitrary to conclude that snore makes people too tired during the day to exercise. That “many” people who snore have sleep apnea is not equal to that sleep snore happens to everyone who snores. It is possible that 90 percent of people who snore are never interrupted by sleep apnea all night but sleep as well as normal people. In addition, do all the people snore all night? It is also possible that 80 percent of those people only snore once for a little while such as five or ten minutes during night, and then the little sleep apnea may be not enough to wake them or the waking time is too brief to drive them too tired. Therefore, more detail information about the probability of sleep apnea and the exact lasting time of snore should be provided.

Finally, even if the study result is proven true and people who snore are too tied during the day to exercise, the assertion that anyone who snore should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise does not stand. Perhaps people who snore work are often engaged in heavily physical work in the daytime, if so with bad sleep they will be easier to be exhausted in the work than normal people who do not snore. Common sense tells us enough eating is crucial for supply of physical force, and thus they maybe need to eat more rather than eat less. Further, it is possible that doing more exercise will consume more energy, and even worse, will make them too tired to concentrate on the work or lead to damages to muscle.

To sum up, the evidences and reasoning mentioned above are not sufficient and well grounded. Therefore, I cannot agree with the speaker.

This argument can hardly stand up to any scrutiny for its several flaws.(开头很简洁哦,不过我觉得有点 不好。

Perhaps most people who snore are young students under age 20 and still growing and thus eat more and gain more weight;(有点牵强啊,年轻人不见得会长胖啊。有可能那些退休的人没什么事做也会长胖啊) whereas those who do not snore are older and retired and thus have less and obtain little weight. In this case, gaining weight may be not due to the snore. Hence, the speaker should give more specific information to ensure the validity of the study.(应该三言两语给出解决方案)

Secondly, it is too arbitrary to conclude that snore makes people too tired during the day to exercise. That “many” people who snore have sleep apnea is not equal to that sleep snore happens to everyone who snores. It is possible that 90 percent of people who snore are never interrupted by sleep apnea all night but sleep as well as normal people.(什么意思? In addition, do all the people snore all night? It is also possible that 80 percent of those people only snore once for a little while such as five or ten minutes during night, and then the little sleep apnea may be not enough to wake them or the waking time is too brief to drive them too tired. Therefore, more detail information about the probability of sleep apnea and the exact lasting time of snore should be provided.

Finally, even if the study result is proven true and people who snore are too tied during the day to exercise, the assertion that anyone who snore should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise does not stand. Perhaps people who snore work (这里语法有问题吧?想表达什么意思啊?)are often engaged in heavily physical work in the daytime, if so with bad sleep they will be easier to be exhausted in the work than normal people who do not snore.

Therefore, I cannot agree with the speaker.(结尾和开头一样,我觉得这样不是很好)

Perhaps most people who snore are young students under age 18, and still growing or preferring fast food containing more carbohydrate and gain more weight; gain weight不等于长胖,未成年人长身体长个子也是增重啊,我再具体说是中学生爱吃快餐高热量,不过,退休的人没什么事做也可能会长胖,所以我改成他们爱吃低热量 whereas those who do not snore are old retired people, and are inclined to eat low-heat food or have less, and thus obtain little weight.

It is possible that 90 percent of people who snore are never interrupted by sleep apnea all night but sleep as well as normal people.意思想说有90%snore的人根本没发生apneaIn addition, do all the people snore all night? It is also possible that 80 percent of those people only snore once for a little while such as five or ten minutes during night, and then the little sleep apnea may be not enough to wake them or the waking time is too brief to drive them too tired. Therefore, more detail information about the probability of sleep apnea and the exact lasting time of snore should be provided.

Finally, even if the study result is proven true and people who snore are too tied during the day to exercise, the assertion that anyone who snore should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise does not stand. Perhaps people who snore 删掉work are often engaged in heavily physical work in the daytime, if so with bad sleep they will be easier to be exhausted in the work than normal people who do not snore.
