Issue II"Competition is ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society."

Since we have entered in a high-competition era, with the great development of science and  technology, we have to take an eye on the effect of competition. While some people may hold the opinion that the competition contributes a lot benefits to the society, in my opinion, whether competition is more beneficial than detrmental or not should be looked at dialectically.

Competing in a proper and legal way contributes a lot to progress in society. In study, students involved in competition endevour to learn more to get a prize, which will undoubtedly both enlarge and consolidate their knowlege. In business, companies participating in competition may generate novel ideas in solving problems so as to get competitive advantages, because only in this way can the companies survive. In sport games, athletes practice more spontaneously to compete with rivals as well as theirselves. As the slogan of Olympic Games says, "higher, faster and stronger", competition results in many exciting new world records. In addition, winners in the competition can raise confidence and go on putting efforts in what he or she has done successfully.

Competition, however, sometimes also does harm to the society when competition gets out of the control of morals and laws. Always competitors are so eager to win that they may turn to illegal means to get what they want. Take election for president for example, some candidates are said to bribe some officials in order to win. Severe competition may cause conflicts even fight, which destroys the harmony of society. And this case often appears when two subordinates compete for one promotion in that they may speak ill of each other intendedly. What's more, losers in competition may be demoralized and in poor spirits, therefore may not pluck up his courage to compete again .

In conclusion, we cannot generally judge the effect of competition because of the reasons mentioned above. It is wise for the society -including all the organizers of all competitions- to effectively control the competitions in a proper way and avoid the harmness of improper competitions.
