The speaker asserts that all faculty should  spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach, in order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level. It might be tempting to agree with the speaker, because learning the more knowledge relevant to the field they teach can bring out many benefits, however, the speaker overlooks that spending much time on the other courses, it might influence the students they teach.

One reason I fundamentally agree with the speaker is that, for the teachers,  it is necessary to study more knowledge from diverse ways. Education is the pressing social problems in the modern society, which  we need to solve urgently, because to ourselves , even the following  generations, education plays an critical role in our life. Teachers ,as an most important power, influence the development of students that take on the responsibility of the current society.

Another reason I generally agree with the speaker is that not only the faculty but also students they teach can benefit from the courses which the faculty learn from the other academic world. By learning these course, faculty can gain more  knowledge, know newest development about these fields of world, supplement the deficient they need. As well,  Students  learning  these knowledge from their teachers can understand the knowledge more profoundly and advance quickly . Consider, for example, some teachers anticipant the groups,  which chiefly discuss  knowledge or development  of the major. By communicating with other members of these group, they get charitable experience which is helpful to improve the quality of teaching. Consider also , my teacher always fly to U.S.A or European to participate some international conference, from discussions, he brings out the  new ideas and perspects, in the process of researching, we also benefit from these ideas.

However, spending infinite time on the other working would prevent the teaching, after all, the time is limit for a person. Spending more time on doing something , accordingly,  decrease the time on the other things. Spending more time on the other working, produces harmful influence on the teaching with which they are concerned  indeed.

In the final analysis, how to allocate time between the teaching and other working relevant with the course is a complex one. There are no certain answers to this question, In my view, spending proper time on the other working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the course  the teachers teaching is necessary and critical.

我觉得这个主题前面半句话是不是也应该写一下，要提高大学的教学质量，难道只有提高老师的水平才行吗？比如改善教学硬件设施，还有规范教学等都可以啊～～
另外，楼上也写啦，Issue应该有充分的论据才行，这篇似乎缺少了点。。
